The Dunalastair Hotel itself is lovely and our room was very comfy with a super kingsize bed, nice clean fluffy towels in the en suite shower room, tea & coffee facilities (we found in the wardrobe), freeview etc. Slight downside here was that our room was on the ground floor and on the 2nd night we had guests in the room above us, i do totally understand that the hotel is an old scottish building but the floorboards upstairs are better than any alarm clock i have ever owned.
The absolute downside of our stay was the hotel receptionist.......in the personality stakes she scores at least a minus ten! We were met on our arrival with a glare over the top of her glasses which never ever turned into a smile of any description, very unhelpful and curt but the final straw was on returning on our first night to collect our key we were very sharply and rudely told 'to stop talking as she could not hear the people on the end of the phone'. LIVID is not the word, needless to say i never exchanged one single word with this person the rest of our stay (my partner was a bit more forgiving or we would have been out of there).
The rest of the staff were lovely.
On another note i know they say the bar across the way from them is not actually part of the Dunalastair (so why plug it as much) but it is barely above spit and sawdust type bars and i can imagine it being full of drunks at the weekend. It consists of 6 pine tables and assorted chairs, a pool table and a wood burning stove. I am sorry but if i wanted to pay £15.95 for a main course it would not be in this type of establishment. Maybe in my youth when drink and a barn dance were all i was looking for.
Sorry guys but this is definately not Scottish hospitality at its best!
Room Tip: Beware of squeaky floorboards above you if you are on the ground floor.
