“Warm and friendly, super breakfast!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

This is the second time we have stayed at The Old Moat House and once again we were greeted with the warm hospitality of Robert and Diana. A pot of tea and shortbread biscuits in front of a huge log fire when we arrived. A quiet night's sleep and a superb breakfast set us up for a chilly day in Rye. The character and friendly nature, plus the reasonable room rates make this a great place to stay.

“Lovely place, hosts and breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011

We loved our "blue room", had a very warm welcome and a lovely stay. Great decoration, most comfortable bed and great breakfast. Would recommend it undoubtedly.

We have just arrived home from the Olde Moat House today. Easy to find even on a dark night. Welcomed in by Robert and then shown through to the guest lounge that contained a huge open fire, it was so lovely and warm. We stayed in the room with the four poster bed, it was very comfortable to sleep in. The duvet and pillows were all feather with crisp cotton sheets. Plenty of hangers/hanging space in the wardrobe. Tea & coffee making facilities (it wasn't instant coffee either), fresh milk in a mini fridge & bottled water. There is a radiator in the room, which is on a timer, but there is also an electric heater you can use if you need to, to take the chill out the room. Bathroom was a good size consisting of a victorian roll top bath with 2 showers, basin, bidet and toilet all delicately painted with flowers. Lots of towels and flannels, tissues, shampoo, conditioner, assorted bubble baths,2 bathrobes, even a scented candle & matches. The food was delicious and well cooked, you couldn't complain there wasn't enough food or choice because both were plentiful. When you eat you all sit round one large dinning table, there were 6 of us today and we had some lovely conversations, one couple originally from Spain and another couple from Slough, even the hosts joined in. The gardens to the property are well maintained, it looked great on Saturday just covered with the frost. There is also 2 sheep towards the back of the house who are really friendly. You settle your bill when leaving, we made the mistake of booking this through a 3rd party site for late bookings but didn't realise we had only been charged a deposit not the full amount. They do take cards at the property but prefer to take cash or cheques if possible. The hosts Dianna & Robert fully explained to us why and we can see there reasons. Forgot to say that you are given a key to the front door so you can come and go as you please. Delightful house and delightful hosts.

We were very impressed by the friendly welcome and high standard of the accomodation. We had no trouble finding the place and just wonder whether some of the people who have written reviews are writing about another place. The hosts were excellent and we loved the sheep!!We are from New Zealand and have travelled all over the world and we can thoroughly recommend the Olde Moat House as an authentic slice of english history.

“Wonderful Hosts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

I stayed for one night on 25th October and loved the experience. Diana made a reservation for us at the Bell Inn when we arrived as the pub gets full quickly (the Bell serves good pub food and a lot of it). What I really enjoyed was the breakfast. It was so nice to sit with the other guests around the oval table, decked with Wedgwood tableware and home made jams and for Robert and Diana to join us. I could have sat there all morning!
