I booked 2 rooms (1 double and 1 twin) from Thursday 8th sept 2011 leaving Monday 12th September. One room was myself and my son who we were moving into University digs on 10th September and the other room was for my parents.
We have stayed in numerous Holiday Inns and have never been disappointed in any way.
However, this time we were left disappointed.
The reception area was fine as was the public area and check in was easy, the problems started in the rooms.
My parents were in room 109 and had no use of the shower for the whole stay despite reporting it. OK, you can live with that for one night but not four, especially when the problem should have been fixed. The response from the receptionist as we left and reported that the shower still wasn't fixed was that they will get it fixed. She had no interest in the fact that they had no use of it for their stay.
I was in room 14 and my shower worked just fine but the bathroom was unpleasant around the bath area. The dial for the shower was surrounded by a centimeter of manky, discoloured silicone, the silicone around the bath looked new but was placed over stained, dark brown grouting. The ceiling was peeling in one area and black with mould over the shower/ bath.
The chairs in my room had quite a lot of staining on them and wooden furniture was scuffed.
I tried to use the trouser press but although a couple of the lights came on it didn't have any impact on the creases in my trousers so I doubt it was working.
A travel kettle,2 mugs, spoons, coffee, tea and sugar was provided but no biscuits.
The beds are very soft. We had soft pillows but I suspect you could ask for firmer pillows should you want them. You need the pillows if sitting on the bed as leaning on the headboard is very uncomfortable as it is wood and is domed.
On a couple of occasions we left the do not disturb sign up and the cleaner left clean towels in a bag outside our room should we need them. .
The hotel is on a busy interchange and you do get traffic noise but it didn't really bother us when the windows were closed.
The hotel does charge £3 per night parking fee ( we were aware of this when we booked)
and although the hotel was busy at times we had no problem parking.
If anyone needs to know internet charges, we had the need to use a computer as a matter of urgency and were charged £5 for internet access for 60 minutes.
I wouldn't recommend this hotel unless I was sure the rooms were updated. We are very disappointed with this as it is the closest hotel to my son's place of study and I was expecting to visit him every couple of months.

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel, and as the General Manager for the hotel, I was most disappointed to learn of the problems you experienced with the bathrooms, and I would offer my sincere apologies for any discomfort this may have caused to youself and your parents. Please rest assured that the points you raised have now been rectified. As part of our Holiday Inn rebranding, our hotel replaced all guest beds and introduced a choice of soft and firm pillows in every guest bedroom. Further alternative pillows are available from our pillow menu. Our guest comments are extremely important to us to help us maintain the high standards expected of a hotel within the Holiday Inn brand, I would like to assure you that this remains a prime goal for us. Thank you once again for your comments and we will most certainly take these on board.
