“Golf Break Heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We went to stay here on a golf break there were 8 of us in the group. We had a brilliant two night stay. Nothing was too much trouble. Lee in the golf shop is an asset to the club and helped us out.
Rooms were clean and spacious; Emma in the hotel could not do enough for us. Breakfast in the morning was a great start to the day, plenty of tea/coffee. The bacon at breakfast comes from Jimmy’s Farm – delicious. The golf course is in great condition and I am sure will be even better in the summer. Our stay included free use of pool and Jacuzzi, the only downside was that we could not drink by the pool. We travelled by train and booked rooms on our return to go back in August to stay here for one night during the Olympics. It is only 30 minutes to Stratford. Thoroughly recommended.

Room Tip: ask for a room overlooking the course

“Nice place to relax...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

The hotel is very nice! Kind staff! And very calm place. We spent a week at the hotel and was very pleasant. Excelent gym and pool! It is a little bit far from Colchester (20 km), but if you have a car, that won't be a problem. The price is very good and the place is beautiful (garden, golf camp). I recommend.

“Great value great facilities good little place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

Stayed here through work and yes the name is slightly grand for what it actually is. But it is clean, nice big rooms, the facilities with the gym and pool are fantastic and the staff were great.

I had no complaints at all about thr food which was hot served quickly and tasted fine. I had dinner and breakfast

The staff at the bar and resturant were really friendly and I would definately recommend the hotel to others.

“Overnight Stay in December”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

This hotel is unlike ordinary hotels as it is part of a sports complex.
I stayed overnight (last night) en route from Melton Mowbray to Brightlingsea and my observations are not disimilar from the others posted here.
The room and ensuite bathroom was of a very high standard indeed and sparklingly clean everywhere. My room had two single beds and the bed was comfortable.

The room temperature was set at a constant and comfortable 21.5c which is just right for me.
If you are arriving by car and using a satnav please note that the postcode is useless and misleading as another writer has commented. The rest of the address is largely unhelpful and I recommend the following:-
Enter the "City" as "Earls Colne"
Then for the street enter "Coggeshall Road" - there is no house number.
This will put you in the nearest road to the hotel so that you can drive the length (about 0.5 mile) of this road and at some point you will not be able to miss the well signposted entrance to the hotel grounds. Proceed through the entrance for about 0.25 mile until you arrive in the main car park by the hotel.
One other thing, I could not get the wifi to work on my laptop, tablet or phone despite several efforts. It may just have been inadequate signal in my room - 28 so I just had to use my mobile hotspot which was fast enough for normal use.
The staff are all very friendly and helpful and the car park was spacious and felt safe (from risk of break-in or dinging - generous width spaces).
The winter rate of £42 was incredibly good value compared with a typical Travelodge at about £30-£35.
Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Apparently, avoid the car park side due to parking noise etc.

“Nice for a weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

My partner and i stayed here for the weekend and would return. The room was like a travel lodge style room only a with extras!! there was a good tv with freeview channels and tea and coffee with biscuits. The bed wasnt the comfyist as the mattress was about at the end of its life but we did sleep ok once we were settled. Breakfast is served in the main building and was ok with all the usual refinements. Staff were all friendly ane the service good. The complex is very busy as its a Golf club, tennis club, gym etc and has function rooms. We had a nice swim which is included in the price and a laze in the jacuzzi which was lovely, we would stay again.
