“Restaurant at Churston Court”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Recently had a meal at Churston Court with our family. The service was slow and as my husband and I did not choose to have a starter, as did others in the party, we did not have our main course until two hours after sitting at the table. The food was expensive particularly as the fillet steak at £22 did not include any vegetables, other than potatoes, and that one member of our party had to return the steak as it was stone cold. My husband chose the thai monkfish curry and was still hungry afterwards. Consider the food is overpriced for the quantity/quality provided. Will not be returning.

“Sumptuous stay in Henry VIII room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

One night stay with family. Cosy hotel with lots of atmosphere - a step back in time. Beautiful superior room - four poster bed, luxurous bathroom with log fire, oil paintings and suits of armour in the bar. No sign of the ghost monk we're pleased to say.

Room Tip: Definitely book superior rooms as our two lads needed twin beds and unfortunately these are only ava...

“Romantic and cosy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

I loved staying here.We chose (poorly!) a particularly wet and windy weekend but the warm and welcoming atmosphere in the hotel soon made you forget the rain lashing down outside! It is decorated with lots of interesting bits and pieces from all sorts of eras and has log fires roaring away to keep you feeling snug.
The staff were friendly and helpful and i liked the fact that there seemed to be a few locals using the bar area as well as guests.
We were lucky enough to be given the Henry VIII room which is the bridal suite!VERY luxurious with a four poster bed, roll top bath and big walk in shower. The room was warm and had this great smell like old things, but in a good way!
The food was lovely,i had lamb medalions and they were cooked to perfection.I also had scallops, again cooked brilliantly.
All in all,a fab, properly cosy old pub/hotel which i would happily recommend to friends and family.

Room Tip: If you can swing it,get the Henry VIII room also known as the bridal suite.Full on luxury!

“By A Log Fire, Back In Time.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2011

This old inn is situated in a charming hamlet. The moment that you arrive, there is a sense of being back in another age. The old building is redolent of a time before motor cars, and the frenetic weariness that is contemporary life in England. The old timbered public rooms with their dark furniture invite one to a snug evening, curled up in a chair while toasting one's tired feeties before an open fire. The dining room is also a pleasant, and imposing room, and the food was of a varied, and fine quality. There was also a good selection of wines. The room was superb, having a four poster bed in a quaint chamber reminiscent of an age of long ago. The bathroom was modern, and luxurious with a splendid tub in which to lie relaxed amidst the effervescence of a bubble bath. Parking was fine with a large car park beside an ancient wall.

“Excellent for a romantic weekend break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

My husband booked this hotel as a surprise get-away trip for our first anniversary and I dare say, he came up trumps with this gem. The rooms are all individually styled, grand (if not necessarily in size) and lovingly restored. Ours had a massive four poster bed and the bathroom (which had high lead-flashing windows going into the main bed room, very clever use of space and light) was brilliant with an elegant roll top bath. My only quarry with the room itself was that there was no where to put any shampoo etc., so they had to sit on the toilet next to the bath. We enjoyed two blissful nights there with a plentyful breakfast, atmospheric log fires, drinks in the cosy bar, friendly staff, so in short it was perfect. On Sunday night (our actual anniversary) we booked dinner in the downstairs restaurant and we were not disappointed with the quaility of food either. We enjoyed sitting in the nook (a small room off the main dining room) for a bit of privacy and sense of occasion. Definitely would return there!
