“Poor value”

My husband and I were booked to stay here for two nights at the weekend, but couldn't leave fast enough after one night. Our room was tiny and yet had a double bed and bunk beds, plus other furniture which made it impossible to move around in. The bathroom had no shower over the bath and wasn't clean in all the nooks and crannies. The mattress was far too soft and had a massive dip in the middle so we rolled into each other - in fact my husband sept in one of the bunks in the end!! Also the bedsheets had stains on although I am sure they were clean. There was a compressor outside the window which motored all night long. The breakfast was satisfactory. The hotel is a good 20 minute drive from Aberystwyth and is very chintzy. We ended up staying at a beautiful 4* b&b right by the seafront in Aber for the second night - and paid less for it!!

“Peace, perfect peace!”

My retired mother and I have just returned from a relaxing and very pleasant weekend at the Dyffryn Castell. Our welcome was friendly and our twin room was very pretty, with everything we could have needed. All the accomodation was spotless and the views from the window were breathtaking. We found the food well cooked, if a little conservative, but there was plenty of it! There is a busy main road outside but we didn't hear any traffic overnight - just the wonderful noise of sheep in the fields.
I would recommend a visit if you're looking for a break "away from it all" - we'd definitely go back.

“Beautiful and peaceful”

This 400-year-old farmhouse is only 12 miles from Aberystwyth, surrounded by nothing but rolling green hills and sheep. It's also very close to Devil's Bridge and Mynach Falls and has a private car park. The owners were friendly and helpful, the food was delicious, and the pub and game room downstairs were very convenient. Our room was cozy and clean, and we really enjoyed hearing nothing but the baaing of the sheep. It is right on the road, but there was very little traffic after dark. We would stay there again.

“Give it a wide berth!”

Whilst the public areas seemed reasonably clean and tidy, the accommodation was a different matter. Low standard of hygiene in bathroom - carpet had not been vacuumed for years, shower curtain mouldy, shower tray was cracked and grimey. Surrounds heavily dusty. Unable to get a good shower with water temperatures fluctating from boiling to freezing. Bin not emptied from previous resident (unpleasant). Washing up liquid on sink, were cups and glasses washed in bathroom sink I wonder? One saving grace was a tasty (if limited) breakfast.

“The Worst Hotel in the United Kingdom”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 June 2005

The location of the hotel is terrible, far from Abeystwyth and any other town, and right by the side of th road. Upon arrival at the hotel we were greated in a most unpleasant manner and told that our reservation was not for that day, as we were sure it was (later they checked and we were right). We were shown to our rooms which were damp, smelly and worn-down. The bathrooms were visibly unclean, full of mildew and grime. We inspected the public areas which were anything but cozy and clean, not to mention the kitchen. We decided to lose our full nights deposit and leave the hotel that same afternoon. We found a lovely hotel on the road along the coast, south of Aberystwyth.
