We visit Aberystwyth regularly and have returned to the Dyffryn Castel Hotel a few times. It is particularly convenient as it is halfway along the main mountain pass into Aberystwyth. The location makes it very quiet- you are surrounded by sheep, however the traffic noise does impact if you are in a room on the roadside. There is ample parking for guests- but the car park is accross the main road- at busy times i would envisage taking your life in your hands to get your personal belongings!
As other reviews have said- it is not a luxurious retreat, it is a functional hotel, good value and has stunning views. The best feature is the food- traditional dishes made with good quality local ingredients- it does not pretend to be what it is not- i imagine the chef is used to cooking for some strapping welsh farmers.
I will return, not only for the food but for the atmosphere that you find around 9pm- the locals are willing to share tales and include you in conversation.
All in all, a good value basic accomodation- great if like us you are stopping over but are not there for a holiday- this place could be particularly useful to other parents of students. Certainly better than some that the town has to offer.
