“A perfect hotel for those looking for something different from Chains”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Having spent the last 14 years living out of hotels from Monday to Friday this was a pleasant surprise. The rooms were pretty much what you would expect for a village hotel in this price range, serviceable and clean. What really stands out is the friendly staff and the wonderful evening meal menu. I've eaten at some very expensive restaurants and the food in the Restaurant is as good, if not better than some high class Restaurants costing 10 times as much. This is a hotel for someone looking for something different from your carbon copy hotel chains. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for reasonable priced accommodation and spectacular food!

“Comfy & clean privately owned hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

Stayed for business on a Tuesday evening Jan 2012. Comfy room and very clean. Freeview TV and wi-fi. Staff very helpful and pleasant. Evening meal very good but slightly expensive. Peaceful location, little noise from outside hotel but very creaky floors in room 2! Hot water was hot but bath was a bit on the small side for comfort. Had a peaceful night sleep.

Slightly let down on this occasion by breakfast which was not up to the usual standards that i have come to expect from this establishment, but that could have been because they were short handed.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms can suffer low water pressure!

“A fantastic "Golden" day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011

My wife and I decided to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary coupled with a three day stay, let me say at the outset we could not have chosen better. The staff were friendly, helpful and went beyond the call of duty to ensure that all the arrangements went to plan. We were given a separate private dinning room which was cosy, warm and intimate and the waitress service received, was second to none. In all we could not fault the hotel in any way shape or form, from the rooms occupied by my family to the outstanding pre-arranged menu. Everyone contributed to this very special occasion ( including the chef ) which we will always treasure. I would recommend this hotel for any celebration or a romantic weekend away. Once again from my family, friends, wife and I a very big thank you - well done to all of you.

Room Tip: All rooms are very good, choose the Four Poster for that intimate weekene away.

“Intimate and friendly”

Stayed here for a week. A lovely little hotel with an attention to service and really great food! Has a homely feel. The bar looks more like my grandmas living room...which makes you feel oddly relaxed. Definately recommend it!

“Fantastic rooms and shabby rooms - the luck of the draw”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2011

This is the hotel with the curl but either way, as another reviewer mentioned the plumbing has a mind of its own.

NICE ROOM
I have stayed in a refurbished room and they are very well laid out, warm and comfortable but (as “The Sherriff” said) the bathroom looks nice but is let down by both the water pressure and the insanity of the bath layout.
The receptionist told me they have a “very expensive” pump to fix this – perhaps somebody should check the fuse

SHABBY ROOM
The garden rooms are to be avoided as much as possible, I was told I was going to get a room with a four poster (just what every business traveller needs) and with this made a leap of faith to expect the room to look like all the other hotels I have stayed in which have a four poster bed.
The bed was as specified but looked like something from MFI’s 70’s collection as did all the bedroom furniture.
The bathrooms aren’t as good, for starters they are carpeted so if you have a bath, which you probably will because of the water pressure, the water spills and wet carpet is not good. The other major hiccup in the morning is trying to get any hot water – I had to have a tepid bath with a kettle or two of boiling water in it.
FOOD
Breakfast was good and the food in the restaurant is also more than acceptable.
IN CONCLUSION
This may well be the best hotel in Duxford but since there are only two; The Duxford Lodge does not really have much competition
Once they finish the refurbishment it should be a better place to stay but they really need to deal with the water pressure.

Room Tip: Do not stay in a garden room. Stay in an executive room and check it first (test the plumbing)
