We booked a suite at this 4* hotel to use as a stopover night thinking it would be great for our 3 year old to have use of the pool and for us to enjoy a larger room.
The location was much further out of town than we anticipated but our fault for not checking. The friendly concierge gave us thorough advice on local restaurants.
I dont know when this was given 4 stars - probably when it was last redecorated somewhere in the early 80`s. The "suite" was shabby with a tiny bathroom, hardly any natural light and with old furniture and torn wallpaper. However, it was clean, had a comfortable bed and was pitch black in the morning so we all slept well and Sky TV.
The pool was a delapidated leisure centre next door which had it not been for the sunshine would have been very grim indeed - we had to buy swimming caps to wear, the resulting hilarity being the highlight of the stay.
Breakfast the following morning was good enough although (unsuprisingly) we were one of only two tables in the breakfast room.
A rather sad old hotel stuck in a timewarp.
