“Excellent service at the Corte Castelletto”

The hotel itself is extremely comfortable, clean, well maintained and the staff are friendly and welcoming. The double room we had was spacious, tastefully decorated, had good (and quiet)! air conditioning. There was a decent amount of storage space and the bed was very comfortable. The bath/shower room was a good size with plenty of hot water and a hairdrier. The room was serviced every day and fresh towels and sheets provided. The mini bar stocked water, soft drinks and one type of lager (in a small can) but was very reasonably priced for a mini bar. Before I travelled I tried to research the hotel as much as possible on the internet and found some information on some reputable websites which was inaccurate. I read on one site that the hotel had a pool - it does NOT or I was looking in the wrong place for 10 days!! I must say that the lack of a pool did not mar my stay at the hotel but if a pool is important to you then this is not the place for you. Some sites also say that it has a bar. This is misleading as the only bar is the mini bar in your room. Another site stated there were tea/coffee making facilities, again this was not the case. Breakfast was provided however and I was pleasantly surprised at the choice, given my past experiences of continental breakfasts. There was a choice of cereals, cold cuts of ham, salami, cheese, bread rolls, orange juice, jams, croissants and tea/coffee. The Staff speak a few words of English but I would recommend a phrase book for being out and about in the town itself.

the area is served by a few airports, we landed at bergamo, milan and took a hire car from there to the hotel ( approx. 80km).
When exiting the A22 for Nogarole Rocca you come to a roundabout which is very misleading, the hotel is not sign posted anywhere in the town. If you follow the sign for Nogarole Rocca (the second exit from the roundabout) you will head off in the wrong direction altogether as I did. I spent a good couple of hours retracing my steps and at 4 in the morning there is no-one to ask!! However, if you stay on the roundabout and take the THIRD exit, the hotel is on the right hand side about 50 metres along the road. I must warn travelers who are intending to go soon that there are quite a lot of building projects around the hotel at the moment and if scenery is important to you then you should look elsewhere. The hotel itself has no provision for dinner but there are a couple of good Trattoria in the town, one a few yards from the hotel and one a couple of minutes walk. There are also two snack/pizza places and a friendly bar which is open till 2am for those who like to make the most of it!! A word of warning though - on Sunday only the pizza joint is open as the trattoria are all closed, perhaps you should plan to eat in a bigger town that night if pizza isn't your thing.

Although I have said that the area around the hotel is a bit of a building site at the moment, the surrounding countryside is stunning and the hotel makes an excellent base for day trips to the more historical towns. the town of Mantova (Mantua) is only 18 km or so away, Verona 28km, Venice 130km and excellent Autostrada links to places like Bologna, Florence and Milan. Overall I found the information availiable on the net vague at best and misleading at worst, I hope this goes someway to correct some of the more blatant mistakes. I would ,however have no hesitation in recommending the hotel itself especially if you intend to use it merely as a base. I would have given the hotel the full five stars if it hadn't been for the roadworks etc.
