My wife and I have just returned from the Top Hotel. It was brillaint in all respects, the staff were 100%, food was superb, and the owners of the Hotel, The Scheiber Family, were very friendly too. We had a suite that overlooked the piste and down the valley too. We even had our own log fire with "real wood", not a fake gas one.
Well done on your 50th Anniversary which you celebrated on the 5th Feb, looking forward to the next 50 years. Thank you for making us both feel so welcome.

We stayed a few times at this hotel over the last 6 years and had mixed experiences. Mixed most of all in view of the price performance ratio.
In essence the hotel has everything it needs to be a great place to be. Location is superb. Ski in and ski out, inside parking, great sun deck, inside ski shop, great wine list, good food and a charming old hotel well updated but still breathing the Tiroler atmosphere. However when it comes to service and organization one must conclude that the staff isn't able to meet the standards one may expect , not to say may demand, from a five star residence. Overall it is okay but just a few times too much goes wrong. Staff is more than willing to correct but it is simply not an excuse for what goes on.
Hochgurgl is situated at the top of the mountain and very small. No shops available one needs to go to Obergurgl. At night nothing is on.
It is certainly not a place for families with young children.
Ski area is above average.

We thouroughy enjoyed our stay. The hotel has had a number of modern renovations without loosing the character of the Austrian feel. (Photo's on this site are not up to date, check out the hotelsite directly.) For everyone who enjoy good food, wonderful skislopes (directly from the hotel accessable), very well trained staff, relaxation in spa's and nice ambiance we recommend this hotel. We will defenitly happily residate here again!
The only minor thing was that I (female) missed a handshower in the shower.

Don't even think 5 stars when booking this hotel. Location of the property is fantastic, but the service is lacking all over the place. Management is terribly organized. Quality of food is not more than ok. Since there’s nothing else to go, you more or less bound to the place. Very pricey considering the quality of the service, rooms and overall experience. When used to 5 star properties all over the world, please be aware that this is only 4 star quality despite it’s claim being 5 stars.

Hotel director is unorganized and not open to any comments or suggestions. Breakfast service and offerings are limited and of a so so quality.

We would not recommend this place, as there are better choices in the region.
