“an outstanding B & B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

We chanced upon this charming place. Our room was huge and Wendy was unbelievable. She put bottles of water in thye fridge and remembered to leave them ibn our room before she went to bed.She encouraged me to use the guests' lounge when i told her I do not sleep much. She even supplied a heater. the hotel is full of quirky knick-knacks and I can recommend it. the breakfast was big and individually cooked. We ate so much that it was enough till dinner.

“Gorgeous luxurious B&B with the best bed I have ever slept in!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2011

We stayed in Burcombe Manor B&B for just one night as my sister was getting married in the village. Wendy was incredibly accommodating about us arriving early in the day (10.30am) so we could drop off our bags and get ready before going to the wedding.

The room was very spacious with plenty of room for our toddler's travel cot. The bed was AMAZING - super kingsize with a really fabuous mattress - we both had a wonderful night's sleep! The room also had a comfy sofa and windows on 2 sides overlooking the lovely grounds which my son enjoyed running around. The bathroom was immaculate (bath and shower) although the sunken bath was a bit strange and I did worry about my son falling into it. I simply closed the door and the problem was solved!

The breakfast was sumptuous and plentiful, proper coffee and a good fry-up with the usual cereal, toast, fruit and yoghurt on the side.

It is wonderfu to stay in such a beautiful house and live the fantasy lord of the manor life for just one day! The decor is really nice - lots of period furniture and ornaments - really help give the feeling of staying with your well-off relatives!

Overall it was the perfect B&B and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

“great spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 May 2011

We had a lovely well lit large room with a comfortable bed and a sunken bath in the bathroom. Everything worked well and internet was free. Breakfast was superb and if we should be in the area again we would return. Personal attention to your needs appeared to be the aim of the charming owners

“Could do Better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 March 2011

The setting, the house, can't be faulted. However, the rest certainly needs improvement! We were asked what time we were arriving, so we could be let in. It turned out, we arrived half an hour early which meant that no one was about to let us in. Luckily, our friends had already cheked in the night before, so let us in. We filled out the registration form in the hall, took our key, left our bag in the room, locked up and left the house to go to the wedding reception. 2 hours later I picked up a voicemail from the owner of the B&B wondering where we were and that her husband had been waiting 2 hours for our arrival. I called and said we had checked in ourselves and that had they looked, they would see that we had registered and had taken the key with us....

On our return at 11pm, we let ourselves in. The owners were up and about so we waited in the hall for them to come and see us as we felt that we should introduce ourselves. No show, so we press the bell that was there for the guests and the owner came out and had a go at us for waking everyone up?! We said that we rang the bell because we wanted to let them know that we were here and to say hello because they weren't around when we arrived earlier and the reply was 'you were half an hour early'. Nice.

The room was ok. TV, tea/coffee with long life milk. Bottled water. Bathroom smelt horrible, musty. Shower tap fell off, dirt on skirting boards. 60 ladybirds in the room at last count....interesting! Needs 'in the event of fire' poster on door with MAP explaining where the back stairs are....not a piece of paper on the dressing table with no map. Woke up with bites on the side of my face that I lie on...bed bugs I guess.

Breakfast was ok, but not to the standard that we have had in other places. Cooked breakfast was basic - Little chef standard.....and found dog hairs in it (two dogs in the kitchen). DIY toast, rubbish marmalade, empty ketchup bottle (which was empty the day before) chipped milk jugs, coffee was good, tea was good and there was real butter.

Left at 11am, was told 'We were meant to leave at 10:30'. Very unfriendly. A couple we know were meant to stay that night but cancelled due to a major family matter. The owners tried to get us to pay their deposit....er...don't think so.

I am in the tourism industry and this place needs to get with the programme if it is to survive. There are better places to stay. If you want to spend £70 to be made to feel unwelcome, have facilties worse than at home and leave with a bitter taste in the mouth then go ahead.
