“Too pristine for walkers”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2010

We stayed here in July for one night during our Coast to Coast walk. It really is an immaculate house but maybe a bit too immaculate for a couple of Coast to Coasters. We felt a bit uncomfortable with all of the cream carpets etc in case we made a mess. The host was friendly enough but he was very keen to get our boots off us before we got anywhere near the door. The views are brilliant and we had a great meal at the Overton House Cafe which they had kindly booked for us. I think this would be a better pace to stay if you were visiting Reeth by car and not wearing wet and muddy clothes.

“If you are a hiker, avoid this b and b!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2010

We were welcomed at the door by a gentleman, who snatched our boots from us, then my bag was grabbed off me in case I "bumpedthe paintwork on the way up the stairs". The room was small and there was no tea or coffee in the room, because apparently to add another socket mey have interfered with the architectural features (a euphamism for not wanting to let the hoi polloi loose with hot drinks). No television in the room.
The shower would not work properly, being either red hot or freezing cold, so we took a bath. There was one bottle of hotel shower gel, which was half empty, and had obviously been used by someone else.
Break fast was not a buffet, we had to order our cereal, and I thought the chap would have a heart attack when we asked for corn flakes WITH MUESLI!!!! The large fruit juice jug had just enough orange juise for a half a glass each, and the jam and marmalde about half a teaspoon each.
When we were ready to leave, we were ushered outside to walk across stone flags to some seats and left to put our boots on (thank goodness it was fine!)
We paid £78 for this hospitality, and it has to rate as one of the worst value stays we have had in all of our long distance walks.

“An immaculate B&B with breathtaking views of Swaledale”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2010

School House B&B is a beautiful, quiet house with spacious stairs and landings and a special front-facing sitting room for guests. The owners are very welcoming and provide a really excellent breakfast – freshly prepared fruits, wonderful yoghourt, very good coffee, very good home cooking. The slight climb up the garden path to the front door is well worth it because you get marvellous views from the comfortable front of house seating area . The house is only 5 minutes walk from the centre of Reeth and right beside the start of the lovely walk from Reeth to Healaugh.

“Designer hotel decor and food at B + B prices !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2009

An overnight stay to allow us to attend a local event......this meant we arrived very late but were treated to great hospitality...even a plate of cheese to go with our own bottle of wine !
We live in a very quiet village, so are conscious of noise....it was tranquil and thus we had a great nights sleep.
Up early the next morning as we needed to travel back to York....first time we had chance to see the fabulous views.......a marvellous, freshly cooked breakfast of our choice......and our attentive hosts were able to provide us with local walk and visitor attractions for when we have time to stay for longer......and we will be back.

“Quiet, with fab views and great hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2009

We stayed at The School House for 2 nights for a short walking holiday. It sits just outside the village in a quiet spot, with fabulous views down Swaledale. It has been decorated to a high standard, with some gorgeous fabrics. We stayed in the front room so were able to see the sunrise over the hills. There were fresh flowers in the room and lounge, where there is a television for guests. I liked not having a television in the room.

Peter and Jan welcomed us with tea and homemade Tiffin (delicious) and although there are no tea-making facilities in the room, we were always offered a drink when we came in. The facilities were explained to us on arrival and we felt the hosts couldn't do enough for us.
Breakfast was fantastic and well presented; homemade bread and plenty of fruit, as well as a full English.

Oh and the bed was comfortable too.

The only minor point was the dog- I'm not hugely confident when it comes to dogs and he was quite energetic. Peter and Jan did check if we were OK with dogs before introducing us, and it certainly didn’t spoil my enjoyment of our stay. We certainly recommend the School House and plan to return one day. (it is also close to the Coast to Coast route)
