“Beware of the parking”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

The main problem is that the parking is on the main road in a lay-by and on the opposite side. There is a steep climb of approx. 20 steps and then gravel. Not easy for the elderly or infirm. The house is nicely furnished but the carpet throughout is cream, which shows every mark - not a good idea when the guests in the main are walkers.
There are no facilities in the room, but the hosts are only too willing to make tea/coffee with cake, whenever you wish and make these facilities available if they are out.

The guest lounge has a T.V. and adequate seating for the maximum of four guests, but it could be awkward if there are different viewing wishes

Room Tip: Only two rooms. We had the twin with bath and shower. Quite small and no clock, tea making facilit...

“One of our more bizarre stays”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2011

Would have to have been the oddest greeting with being refused entry until all boots or wet gear were removed and attention more to putting the shopping away then getting us settled. The slices and cup of tea though were a nice treat. On entering the house you understood why with plush, cream carpets and you wondered why they accepted coast to coasters. It is also a fair way from town for a cold and wet night. The rooms were nicely presented but lack of tea making facilities was a little frustrating, as was the lack of drying facilities. Breakfast was a little limited and the overbearing photo of Peter and his wife staring at you was a little off-putting. Nevertheless we left rested and ready for the next day!

“Home and Garden rules”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

We arrived at Reeth at about 3:00pm, luckily on a sunny day, as we were greeted by Peter who immediately asked that we remove our boots before entering. I could perfectly understand why as inside the door was beautiful plush pile carpet, perhaps not that practical for walkers arriving wet and bedraggled. Most B&Bs had an area outside the weather where this could be done and so we wondered how he would have got on if the weather had not been so kind. This aside we were made welcome with tea and cake in the lounge, although we always felt that a nervous eye was watching to ensure that no damage was done to the recently painted interior.
The room was very comfortable although no tea or coffee. The shower was adequate although the pressure was fairly low, even by UK standards. Peter seemed to be very energy conscious and we had to ask for the heating to be turned on. Breakfast was very nice with everything, including jams and preserves home-made. Peter arrranged for our washing to be done.
Dinner at the Kings Arms was excellent

“Coast 2 Coast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2011

Booked through Packhorse Coast 2 Coast walk.
Very warm welcome from Peter and his wife, lovely cup of tea in sunshine, much needed. Immaculate home, although felt a little uncomfortable, this home was like a show home, credit to Peter and his lovely wife. Would have loved a soak in bath instead of shower.

“ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT”

We have just done the coast to coast on bikes and The School House was the best place we stayed at. Peter was a great host. He whisked our bikes off to his secure bike storage whilst asking us in the same breath if we would like a cup of hot tea and some home-made cake (beautiful apricot cake!!). He let us relax in the guest lounge and then took us up to our room. Wow!! Top marks for cleanliness and décor (cream carpets, modern décor). Yes, there are no tea and coffee making facilities in the room or a TV but there is a guest lounge where we happily spent a few hours watching ‘Men in Black’ later that evening. Peter was more than happy to make us drinks but was not intrusive. He was also the only person on the route who asked if we had washing that needed doing. There was a small charge for this service (£5) but I would have been willing to pay twice that as all of our smelly cycling clothes were whisked away and returned dry and fresh the next day. Also, the breakfast was AMAZING. Fresh fruit, baked bread (not just your sliced white here!), porridge with sultanas and cinnamon, home-made jam etc and as we were a bit fed up of fried breakfasts we had smoked salmon and cream cheese. Top marks for a guest house that is out-of-the ordinary and is a real gem.
