“Hospitality beyond any we have ever had”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2010

This was a wonderful experience. Barbara's hospitality was so warm and friendly and helpful. Although the bedroom was a bit small, the bed was very comfortable and the washroom facilities were excellent. Everything was so clean. We also had a private den to relax in and watch tv. The scenery from the bedroom was amazing and so was the sunset (which we were lucky to see!). The breakfast was declicious in an abolutely beautifully decorated kitchen. What amazed us as well was the quiteness of the location.

“Ideal place for a Skye getaway”

We spent a wonderful couple of days on Skye, and the Maltby B&B was ideal for us, and Barbara was the perfect hostess. She was friendly and welcoming when we first arrived after a long trip, and spent just enough time showing us around. Our room was very comfortable, with a lovely view out to the water with the mountains behind. There are two rooms, but only one is rented out at a time, so we had the place to ourselves. Breakfast was the highlight, with so much food we had to take a couple of extra home-baked scones away with us for a midday snack. Breakfast was served in Barbara's large kitchen, so we really felt at home, and the food was just great. Barbara gave us several recommendations on places to see and where to eat, and she came through each time. We would recommend Maltby to other travellers looking for a quiet, comfortable base from which to explore Skye.

“Cosy little place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2009

We found Maltby through Tripadvisor when looking for a nice little friendly B&B close to the Kyle of Lochalsh bridge. It was everything that was promised to us by the other guests. We styed tor only one night as w were travelling around Scotland on a tight schedule. Barbara is very welcoming and friendly. She was extremely helpful when we hadn't eaten that night and as I was travelling with my young son and couldn't venture out too again to find a restaurant even let us eat in her kitchen and warmed some food for us in the microwave. The kitchen is adorable, it is the place where you are served breakfast and it feels like being in a kitchen from a 'country living' magazine. The cheese scones are homemade and to die for. As Barbara only takes one party at a time my son and I enjoyed the luxury of having seperate bedrooms (sharing twin bedrooms in all the other B&B's we stayed in) and I particularly enjoyed the Cath Kidston look of my bedroom as well as the view from the window. Maltby sits on a little hill and you get great views of the moors, mountains and the seaside. The bathroom is neat and nicely decorated, it features one of the very rare mixer taps we continentals always seem to miss in the UK. Very innovative!! Would love to come back one day with the rest of the family!!

“Welcoming and good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 June 2009

We chanced upon this cosy B&B when we'd been let down by another which double booked our room. After a day long drive, we were exhaused and fed up, but were warmly greeted, and immediately felt at home.

The whole place was very clean and nicely (and sweetly) decorated, especially the kitchen. It was here that were were presented with a wonderful breakfast each day (we stayed two nights) - there was a very good choice on the menu; my partner had the kippers, which he said were wonderful, and we both loved the cheese scones.

Our hostess, Barbara, was friendly and informative without being intrusive, and really made us feel welcome. One of the bonuses is that Barbara only takes one party at a time, so effectively you've got your own bathroom (although it is not en suite)

At the top of a driveway, the house is set away from the main road, and up a hill, so the views were fantastic. It was lovely and quiet, and very handy for exploring the rest of the island.

The only downside was the sign. As another reviewer mentioned - it's easy to miss, and I feel it didn't reflect the quirky style of the hotel - we nearly didn't go in! And what a shame if we hadn't. The suprise holiday for my 50th birthday was a great success!
