Maltby is a small cosy B & B near to the village of Broadford on the island of Skye. It is run single handedly by the owner Barbara Poyser. It is pretty much as described on her website but unfortunatley during our 3 night stay there was a major water problem! There had been a burst water main on our first morning, so no shower or bath.
Although the water main was repaired our water problems continued.... There was no shower for the rest of our stay due to low pressure and the bath only filled to about 6' deep before the hot water ran out. Just as well me and my hubby like to share a bath! No only joking! It was a bit annoying especially after a day of hillwalking and touring. Barbara was very apologetic and did try her best to remedy the situatuion. The breakfasts she cooked would satisfy the hungriest of men and were served at 8.15am prompt. If you wish she will provide a fabby 3 course home cooked meal at £20pp.
If you want to eat out in Skye it is imperative that you book! We found this out to our cost- one evening spent driving round trying to get a table somewhere! Try Creelers in Broadford, so good we went twice! The very spicy chicken Gumbo is not for the faint hearted but very delish all the same! The Three Chimneys costs £50 pp for a 4 course meal and about £25 pp for a 3 course lunch, both meals are priced excluding coffee, etc. If you like seafood, venison and pigeon then this is for you. Prices overall are more expensive all over the island, fuel was at a staggering 126.9 for diesel!
Skye is a hillwalkers paradise, absolutely breath taking scenery everywhere you go. There are many exhibitions, galleries and trips to go on. I strongly recommend that you visit the traditional township museum and Flora MacDonalds grave at Kilmuir. We totally loved this slice of traditional Island life and well worth the £2.50pp entrance fee. The Vanilla Skye chocolate shop in Portree is worth a visit to if like my hubby you love handmade chocolates!

I feel I must express my concern regarding the difficulties referred to over the water situation. I see no point in labouring events which were completely out of my control. There was a burst water main in the whole area which resulted in no water at all. When it was reconnected it led to a loss of pressure in the guest shower which rendered it inoperable until fixed by a plumber. This was done as soon as possible. The lack of hot bath water could easily have been recitifed if I had been informed. In fairness, the reviwer did make reference to my attempts to rectify the situation and seemed happy with other areas. However, I am totally at a loss to understand the cleanliness rating given. My B&B is spotless - as all the other 13 reviews that I have on Trip Advisor testify to that ,awarding me 5/5. I have also just had my anual grading by Visit Scotland (carried out on 01/05/2008). I quote 'Cleanliness is of an overall Exceptional (5star) Standard'.
