“Avoid unless you don't care where you stay”

We booked an apartment room at this hotel for 2 adults and 2 children, particularly on the basis of the reviews on Trip Advisor, the location and the advertised kitchen facilities (as we were travelling with young children it is convenient to be able to have evening meal in the room).

On arriving at the Hotel, we were informed it was overbooked and no room was available. We were sent next door to the HG Hotel, where we were informed that the Guitart has rooms permanently on standby as they consistently overbook. The rooms they had reserved in the HG were double rooms with maximum occupancy of 2 adults. The Hotel was unable to accommodate us, even after we suggested that we would accept two adjacent rooms. We returned to the Guitart to be directed to a third hotel which we were told was "just around the corner". After driving to their directions for 10 minutes, we had to stop and ask for further directions and were informed that the subsitute hotel proposed was 3 km away from La Molina. We arrived at the Supermolina hotel and were finally given a room, some two hours after we initially tried to check in. The subsitute hotel room was not equipped as an apartment, resulting in further phone calls between Guitart and Supermolina, until finally at 9pm the Supermolina Hotel agreed to supply us with four plates and a knife so that we could make a sandwich.

The subsitute hotel was not to a similar standard, not in a similar location, and did not have similar facilities. As such we contacted Guitart to ask for a refund which they declined as we had "accepted the accommodation offered" - by which they mean that at 10pm at night we declined to sleep with our two children in our car.

I cannot comment on the actual facilities at Guitart, as we weren't ever able to access them, but overbooking appears to be a company policy and they do not have a sufficient service level to be able to deliver that policy without significant inconvenience to the traveller. If you are looking for a hotel in this location, the HG staff were much more helpful and actually seemed to care whether we had somewhere to stay or not. It may be that if you are lucky enough to get a room the other reviews are correct, however we did not arrive at a particularly late hour, and there appeared to be several other parties in a similar position

“Handy for the slopes”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2008

We have stayed at this aparthotel twice within a few months. It is very convenient for the skiing at La Molina, and has the essentials nearby - shop, restaurant, ski hire etc, but not a great deal else. On arrival, the reception staff were friendly enough, but seemed to be very new to the job (on both of our visits!) and could not even tell us where the nearest shop was. We found the apartment to be a good size, quite well equiped, with decent beds and a nice balcony. If you have a room at the front of the hotel the views are lovely. Unfortunately there doesn´t seem to be much soundproofing between rooms and onto the corridor, and on one stay we were kept awake all night by noisy neighbours. There is a kids room downstairs which was a nice distraction for our son, but the spa area is poor, actually very cold as the external doors have about a 2 inch gap at the bottom, and is over-priced. Overall, for us, having an apartment is a big help with our young son and the location is very convenient, but it could do a lot better.

  • Liked — Proximity to ski slopes
  • Disliked — Lack of soundproofing, draughty and expensive spa

“Good location for slopes, resort quiet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 March 2008

Our family of two adults and two children (5yrs and 16mths) stayed at the Guitart La Molina for 3 nights from Easter Sunday. The apartment rooms for 4 are a good size with the main bedroom having 2 single beds and the living area having a sofa bed that converts into 2 singles. We ordered a cot but it wasn't ready when we arrived, although it only took 5 mins to get one for us. The kitchen is o.k. but could do with a toaster as the microwave grill takes about 8 mins to do one slice of toast. You are only paying for the very basic room and EVERYTHING else is an extra cost. Parking is 14Euros, the cot 5.5 euros, swimming pool 10E adult and 5 for children PER DAY which is a bit of a rip off, but you can park down the road for free and we did a deal on the swimming, but it was still expensive as we had paid full price for the rooms. The ski resort is only 100metres away and was extremely quiet, no queues at all. We were lucky there was a huge dump of snow after we arrived.(The drive there was one full of mountain road hairpin bends, and if the snow had come earlier you would have needed snow chains, and possibly the road would have been closed). There are plenty of outlets to hire ski equipment, but in the evening there were hardly any restaurants open, especially early enough for children to eat. It was a good job we had bought tonnes of food with us, as the only supermarket in La molina is tiny, and if the delivery doesn't get through because of the snow, there is hardly any stock. La Molina is a very quiet resort with hardly any nightlife, so don't go there if you want to live it up, but it is good for families with young children. There are virtually no English in La Molina, and therefore no English speakers, make sure you have a few phrases in Spanish.

  • Liked — view of the mountains
  • Disliked — having to pay for the swimming pool
