“Something Missing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Stayed here for a couple of nights early January. Had previously stayed here a few years ago and had a wonderful experience although this time a little disappointing. The management/check in staff not very familiar with the local area and oddly distant to relate to. Our room was at the top of the stairs with a few steps between the bedroom and bathroom. The steps were incredibly creaky and very loud in the middle of the night! Wi-fi did not work and not really any assistance to correct it. Restaurant quite good, breakfast generous and good choices on the menu. We love the location of this hotel however would probably try something else next time.

Nik Irvine, Manager at Washbourne Court, responded to this review
14 February 2012
Dear Seafolly,

Thank you for taking the time to review Washbourne Court.

Firstly may I express my sincere apologies for not meeting with your expectations during your recent stay with us.

I very much appreciate your constructive feedback and I would like to take this opportunity to address some of the concerns raised in your review.

As you may know, Washbourne Court has recently changed ownership and as part of this transition we do have a number of new employees, who are not only new to the business but also new to the area. This, of course, is no excuse for not being able to provide you with local information but maybe slightly more understandable as to the reason why. I have now ensured all new members of the team spend additional time with existing employees to gain a good understanding of the local area.

I can only apologise for the creaky steps in your bedroom and any inconvenience these may have caused you. Unfortunately, due to the age of the building, Washbourne Court does have
some areas which are affected by this and it is something we are looking into.

Again, my sincere apologies for the lack of WiFi during your stay. I am happy to report that the issue has been rectified and we now have complete coverage across the property.

On a positive note, I was very pleased to hear that you enjoyed your breakfast experience and I have passed your comments on to the Chef and his team.

I hope this has gone some way to addressing some of the concerns raised in your review but if you would like to discuss any of the points with me further I would be happy to do so.

Yours Sincerely

Nik Irvine

“A very relaxing weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

We recently had a very relaxing weekend at Washbourne Court. The village of Lower Slaughter is idyllic and it is an easy walk into Bourton on the Water.
All of the staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble and the management are very keen to ensure everyone has an enjoyable stay.
We ate in the Scholars Lounge which is very informal and has a couple of log fires with comfortable sofas and armchairs, it was never a problem getting a cosy seat.
The hotel has recently been purchased by a very up market hotel group which is good to know as the hotel and setting will not let you down.
All of our expectations were met and at times exceeded.

“Lovely spot in the heart of the beautiful Cotswolds”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

This is a lovely hotel in a beautiful village. The staff were most helpful which is marvellous when travelling with 12 week old twin boys. Couple of improvement areas in the bedroom would be better pillows (not very comfortable) and a better coffee selection (bit downmarket at present). However, great weekend and for £115 on bookings.com, great value!

“Great stay”

My partner and I have just got back from a lovely overnight stay at Washbourne Court and have a great stay. The room was lovely, we stayed in Jourdelay's room, it was very spacious with a walk-in shower and a double ended bath and the bed was to die for! We ate in the Scholars Lounge and the food was delicious and very filling, we were able to follow this by sitting at an open fire with a cheeky bottle of red. Overall staff were very welcoming, friendly and attentive and we had a very enjoyable stay. Would definately return in the future.

Room Tip: Recommend Jourdelay's room, very spacious, peaceful and great opportunity to have a soak in a lo...

“Peaceful short break”

We booked a last minute trip to Washbourne Court and got a great price on the room - when we arrived we found out that our room had been upgraded free of charge which was a lovely surprise. The hotel staff are very friendly and welcoming, they are always on hand to help out should you need it. Housekeeping come around to the rooms in the evening and offer you extra toiletries and snacks - a great touch.

We ate at the Scholar's lounge, after reading the reviews of the Eton's restaurant we opted for the cheaper option. The food was good, nothing spectacular. The restaurant staff seemed to not really know what they were doing during our meal, there was a lot of trips backwards and forwards and this affected the atmosphere. The waitress who served us was very shy and did not greet us or ask us how we were which was a shame as that tends to put you at ease and it creates a nicer atmosphere. The waiting staff did not go the extra mile with their service which was a shame.

On the whole, the hotel is beautiful, location amazing but the waiting staff need to smile and be a little more friendly!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a roll top bath - well worth it!
