“Terrible accommodation but great food!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We were absolutely appalled at the dirt that we were greeted by when we got to our room! We were extremely tired after driving all day so didn't want to make a fuss so cleaned it up ourselves but not before we took a few pictures.. I will add them here too so you can see.

The first and the most disgusting was a poo in the toilet.... My husband, being a very nice laid back sort of a man, flushed it away before I had a chance to take a picture but it's probably a good thing (lol)..

Then I checked the rest of the bathroom and I can tell you, - it was cleaner after we left the room the next morning than when we got there. Someone very dirty has had a shower and it was clearly not cleaned before our arrival!

There was dirt all around the bathroom and there was rubbish still in the basket. Carpets were dirty. The only thing that was reasonably clean was the actual bed, was made up with clean(ish) sheets. Needless to say I slept wearing my clothes.

Looking back, I am very surprised that we actually stayed in there and didn't complain straight away, - we were very very tired and all we wanted was a bed to sleep in. Which, in fact, turned out to be a very bad night's sleep. The music from the bar was very loud and we couldn't fall asleep till after everyone from downstairs had gone to bed, I assume, - very late (or early I should say).

Or our hesitance to complain might have been due to not an overly friendly reception when we actually got to the hotel?...

The only compliment I have to this place is the food. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious and very generously portioned. I highly recommend the restaurant and waiting staff were friendly.

We mentioned all this to the girl at the reception the next morning, she looked rather embarrassed but didn't offer anything to make us feel better, so to speak. OK, we thought that maybe someone would mention it in a letter, e-mail or such on our return home but a month on, we are still waiting.

So we decided to write a review on here and warn the potential patrons, - find another place to rest yourselves but do come for food.

We both work in the travel industry and have seen worse and have seen much much better of these type of accommodations but we were bitterly dissapointed with this place.

Room Tip: Probably on the garden side as the hotel is right on the road so noisy traffic.

“One night is enough!!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Spent one night at The pelican! Never again!! Carpets in bedroom dirty, shower poor! though beds comfy and clean!", The noisest place ever! Creaking floors and doors! We could hear next room occupants walking around etc!! Breakfast @9am only! Very early for a Saturday plus rooms vacated by 10am!!
Staff quite disinterested!
We wouldn't reccommend this B&b!!

“Excellent restaurant in Froxfield, Wiltshire”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

We stopped off here on the way back to Chippenham from London today as the M4 was closed at Hungerford. There's ample car parking, free wifi and the food and service were both excellent. The chef here is a genius. It's a little pricey - £27 for 2 Sunday roasts and drinks but worth every penny as the food was well portioned, cooked and presented.

If you're in the Froxfield/Marlborough area then I really recommend you check this place out for an excellent dining experience.

“Very good Sunday Lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

We had sunday lunch for 4 people and it turned out to be a very enjoyable experience in all respects. The food was of a good standard, the portion size was fine altough the vegetables could have been cooked a little longer for my taste. The staff were very friendly and efficient and I am pleased to say that we will visit again in the near future.

“Very pleasant Sunday Lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

Very attentive staff, good food (although vegetables a bit on the crisp side), otherwise good value, good size portions and a good dining experience overall. On a future trip I would ask to have the vegetables a little longer cooked to meet my taste which I'm sure won't present a problem to the restaurant. The restaurant was very busy with pre-Christmas diners but the service was friendly and efficient. Well done and will be back.
