“Food OK, but terrible accomodation”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 May 2011

We stayed here overnight for my birthday in order to visit stone henge. The room was shocking - dirty, with a broken, filthy kettle, and a very uncomfortable bed. The rooms are actually a seperate building from the pub and are situated right next to the beer garden. We got very little sleep due to the noise of the punters just inches away from our window. Also, it says on the website that there is wi-fi in the rooms, but there was not wi-fi signal. Upon complaining I was told that I could only get signal in the bar, but I couldn't even get it there. All in all, very disappointing and I would not return.

Room Tip: Don't even bother.

“Great Food, Good location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2010

During my stay at the Pelican Inn (3 nights) I found the staff to be very polite and pleasent. The breakfast each morning was served up by the owner and his wife who between then produced a lovely full English which consisted of self service of juice and cereals followed by a full grilled breakfast that was brought out fresh from the kitchen. I also booked a table in the Restaurant each night and the food was also to a high standard. On the down side upon being shown my room I had to immediately return to the bar as the only lamp in the room situated by the bed did not work also there were not any towels, this oversight was put right some 30 mins later. On the 2nd day, although I had been out all day, upon my return at 5.00pm no one had been in my room to clean or change the towels I unfortunately had to complain once again, this was rectified during the evening. The general standard of cleaning was very poor indeed I do not believe that the bathroom was cleaned all the time that I was there..

P.S. The T.V. in room 5 only has a small indoor aerial situated on top off the Television that gives an abysmal picture.

“I wouldn't hesitate to return”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2010

In terms of value for money The Pelican has to be first choice.
It only has five rooms so it doesn't feel anonymous like a big hotel and I felt more like a valued customer than in most other places I've stayed.
Dinner was a joy. There was a good range on the menu and both my meal and my partner's were very well presented as well as being tasty and plentiful.
The bedroom was furnished to a higher standard than is normal in this price range. In my experience it's not usual to have a fridge in your room nor a toaster either.
You wouldn't want noisy neighbours in the next room given that there seems to be an absence of soundproofing plus the traffic on the busy A36 might cause some visitors a problem.
But all in all I found The Pelican to be a delight.

“friendly and well located”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2010

This is a great value, well located choice.
The food is excellent; some locally sourced and an extensive menu and specials board.
As a solo traveller I was made to feel very welcome and safe and the staff are all very friendly.
The rooms are well appointed and clean and seperate from the main pub.

“Good location for Stonehenge”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 April 2010

Nice small Inn. I especially liked the fact that the room was in a detached house with view on the garden, just behind the Inn, this ensured we had peace and quiet.
Good food is provided in the restaurant. 10 - 15 min drive from Stonehenge (very convenient!)
