We stayed (2 adutls 2 young children) at Shivas Village Hotel for 3 nights. The hotel is obviously old and badly needs a renovation. Pool VERY dirty, the toilet flasher did not work properly, very bad smell in the bathroom. A nice balcony but totally unprotected from the sun, tiles broken in a part.
Still, we stayed in a two-space appartment with a really big bedroom and another very spacious room with two beds a ktichen area with fridge, sink and a small kitchenette. You could prepare breakfast and basic meals if you wanted.
This very spacious appartment for its price was really great if you dont mind the fact that the hotel is outdated and lacks of any special character, the architecture and the colors have nothing to do with the local architecture (but then unofrtunately few buildings in kreta have) and the overall impression is a little bit odd and kitch.
The real problem was the totally amateurish and unacceptable attitude of the personell (mainly they were two, the owner who was never almost there and an italian woman who in reply to whatever request we had she kept saying i am italian , i am italian, i am from Rome, i really didnt understand the point of this!!!!)
in the room when we checked in there was no soap nor paper toilet. we had to ask for them
when i asked for towels the italian lady (after the necessary moto, that she is italian from rome) she had to go to a dark underbasement and look for them for 10 minutes.
when i asked for towels the next day the boss told me that is was clearly indicated at the internet that towels were provided every three days and he pointed out to me the cost for him for washing the towels!!!!
he didnt mean it bad just a young man totally unexperienced in hotel business, he still tried to be polite but...
all in all if you dont mind the zero level of service, the weariness of the hotel and you just need a cheap and still acceptable accomodation in the area Shivas is ok
