Casa de San Martin is an amazing place. It might be the nicest place my wife and I have ever stayed. The building and rooms are beautiful and very well equipped.
One of the owners showed us around and told us the history of the place. It once belonged to the Abbot of San Victorian, the oldest monastery in Spain. My recollection is that one part of the B&B was originally a chapel and it's now the bar.
We had paid €150 for a Double Junior room but were upgraded at no charge to a Double Superior room which normally goes for at least €30 more than the Junior. The bedroom was very large and comfortable and had a balcony with a beautiful view. The bathroom was very large and well equipped.
We had expensive drinks in the honor (bottle of Ambar 1900 beer €3.80, Makers Mark €6.50, small Vichy water €2.50).
The location is fantastic. It's at the end of a ridge with great views of the surrounding valleys. We were treated to a fantastic sunset.
After the sunset we had a very good prix fix dinner for €35 each. We both ate beef fillet, zucchini soup and lentil salad. My wife had flan. I had fruit with mango sorbet.
We drank a bottle of Arnazas Crianza for €16.
Casa de San Martin offers a wonderful buffet breakfast. The only annoyance was someone in the dining room got agitated when my wife hit the wrong button on the coffee machine.
For what we paid, I expect the help to be more understanding or just make the coffee for the customers. Two employees where just sitting around chatting most of the time we were eating breakfast.
Before we left, we asked them to fix us a lunch to go. We should have asked what we would get and how much it would cost. We got two nothing special sandwiches for €9.50 each and a large bottle of Vichy water for €3.50.
We'd love to go back someday but we'd skip the expensive honor bar and lunch to go.
