“Nice, quiet place with good wine and a great wine cellar.....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2010

I spent one night in this nice place with a couple of friends. The building is an antique bodega with a very characteristic touch. The rooms are cozy and have a nice view of the wineyards. One of the things we mostly appreciated was the free small bottle of Rioja in the room that we drank in the bar/lobby area of the former beautiful wine cellars of the hotel. Breakfast was okay, could have more selection. The lady at the reception was friendly in contrast to the waitress....

“Excellent base for a Riojan adventure”

We stayed in "Riesling" for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. First of all, it should be noted that while you can walk to Laguardia, you have to do so along the edge of the road (no footpath) and up quite a hill. It is not really a convenient walk, but if you don't have a car in Rioja then you're clearly mad, so this should not be a problem. The Laguardia area is an excellent launching pad for days of fun exploration of all the Bodegas on offer - most places of interest are within a 30 minute drive.

The room decoration is bordering on kitsch, well, perhaps not bordering, but somehow the floral patterns and oversupply of useless bathroom accessories (do people really still need combs?), all added to the charm. The room was very large and the bed enormous (although I hate how so many parts of Europe have 2 single beds together as their double - my wife feels so far away). The wifi worked perfectly in our room, as did the bath (in case you were wondering). Breakfast was great and I can honestly say was the only time I've ever been offered wine with my breakfast! When in Rioja...

When staying in the area, make sure you do lunch at Hector Uribe and at Baigorri if possible - both were superb.

“Need to work on their customer service skills”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2009

My fiance & I took a whirlwind tour of Spain this month, and spent two nights here. We were really excited about the hotel and even upgraded to the Tempranillo suite, a big splurge for us. However, despite this being our most expensive hotel of the trip, it was our worst experience.
First the good points: The suite was beautifully furnished & had a killer view over wine country. There was a complimentary half bottle of wine that we were grateful for. Our room was very clean as well. There was an on-site restaurant that served delicious food too.
The not so good:
The people who worked here were very unfriendly. I understand that there is a language barrier, but the 2 women who we interacted with spoke very good english. Yet, they were snippy, rude & completely uninterested in helping us. Right in the lobby it says no reservation necessary to take a tour of their vineyard. Guess what? They didn't have room for us. Right on the wall they have a sign that says "WiFi Access". Guess what? No internet & when we had the audacity to ask about it, they snapped at us. Want to enjoy a rainy day by sleeping in? Guess what ? They will call you to tell you if you don't leave your room RIGHT NOW, they won't clean it. I could go on & on. These were the least friendly people we'd encountered in Spain, and it definitely made us sad that we'd spent the extra money on this place. Also, as I mentioned, we got the suite for extra romance - we had 2 twin beds with separate bedding in the room! I wouldn't recommend it if you are english-speaking or hoping for friendly hosts.

“Stay in town rather than here...........”

Laguardia is a wonderful town but this down a long hill from town and is an extension to an old Bodega. The rooms are ok but a little dated and it was empty when we stayed. To get the real fun, stay in town.

“Nice rooms, beautiful landscape, near (but not in) town”

I really enjoyed my stay here. The rooms were ample sized, well decorated, well appointed (including a bottle of their winery's wine). Our room had an exposed brick wall that added a lot of interest. Bed was firm. Everything was very clean. Really one of my favorite hotels in Spain in this price point (about €87). Would be a long walk to car. So better to have a car.
