The Hotel lies just below the medaeval city walls, a 10 minute up and downhill walk (which helps with calorie burning) or a quick drive round the curvy roads. The Hotel, itself is a bit of a mixed bag. The rooms are ample in size, good beds and bathroom facilities but the squeakiest wooden flooring I've ever experienced - this is fun if you're in relaxed holiday mode, but can be annoying, if you need a good sleep and your partner goes walkies in the night.
The staff were excellent, helpful in every way including going out of their way to book vineyard tours, Restaurant tables etc...The highlights were being able to visit the Bodega Cosme Palacio within the grounds and be given a full tour (available in English or Spanish); sit in the gardens with a glass
of red on a sultry afternoon and have dinner of an evening in their very proficient and affordable Hotel Restaurant. We ate excellent food (lamb was absolutely top drawer), steak got great reviews from our family and we took the opportunity of drinking a 1978 Glorioso Gran Reserva from their own Bodegas at an unbelievably good price.
Lots to recommend. Laguardia itself is a must see and great base for wine enthusiasts; the hotel is good with a few quirks that need to be taken as part of the package.
