We had 13 family and friends from 4 different states descend on Kavos Bay for 5 nights for a family reunion/50th wedding anniversary celebration. We had an age range of 9 to 71 and I was concerned about finding a place that would meet the expectations and needs of such a varied group. Kavos Bay exceeded them all! From the time we booked until we were dropped off at the ferry, Irene and her family were responsive, helpful and caring. The swimming and snorkeling right off the rocks by the hotel was great fun. The location is a bit of a walk from town, but the walk is beautiful and when we didn't feel like walking, Irene and her family were more than happy to drop us off or pick us up. They happily accommodated all of us on a ride up to the Temple of Aphaia as well as the numerous trips to town and restaurants. In addition to the beautiful, quiet setting, we were able to see the Milky Way from our balcony! I found the rooms to be basic, but clean. When a problem was encountered with one of the AC units in a room, Irene was quick to respond and ensure that we were comfortable and happy. They were even kind enough to set up a TV out on the patio so that we could all watch the World Cup under the stars and while listening to the lapping waves of the Aegean.
In addition to the wonderful breakfast that was included each morning complete wth Nikos bringing fresh, warm rolls from the bakery, we ate two dinners at the hotel and they were delicious. I can't believe how much I ate! We tended to find the food at other restaurants lacking when compared to the food prepared by Irene and her sister. Having a chef in the family, food tends to play an important role in our travels and Irene's restaurant tips and Kelly's advice about pairing the ouzo with octopus gave us the inside scoop to make the most of our meals.
Having started our trip on the island of Tinos, we felt we had the best of both worlds at Kavos Bay in being able to experience another island that was still very Greek, but this time we had the benefit of english-speaking hosts who we could understand and ask questions. The Krassas family really is what made this place so special and the reason that my family and I felt a little teary-eyed as we waved to them from the ferry and saw them out on the balcony waving farewell to us. All 13 of us were reluctant to leave and hope that we will be able to visit again.
