“Kavos Bay Hotel is a tranquil haven with views that will make you sigh with pleasure.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2010

This is a secluded location, so if you want party party and mod cons this is not for you. I wanted a break from London and a chance to catch up on some reading, catch some rays, and do some swimming and walking. As a solo female traveller I also wanted somewhere that felt safe and Kavos Bay was perfect. Nikos and Irini and their daughter made me feel very welcome. They were always charming and entertaining and had time for a chat and were able to give well informed advice. It may be wise to hire a scooter or car if you want to explore the island, but Nicos gave me lifts to various places, such as the gorgeous Temple of Aphaia. Breakfast and other meals were cooked by Irini and were utterly delicious.

“A Hidden Gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2010

We had 13 family and friends from 4 different states descend on Kavos Bay for 5 nights for a family reunion/50th wedding anniversary celebration. We had an age range of 9 to 71 and I was concerned about finding a place that would meet the expectations and needs of such a varied group. Kavos Bay exceeded them all! From the time we booked until we were dropped off at the ferry, Irene and her family were responsive, helpful and caring. The swimming and snorkeling right off the rocks by the hotel was great fun. The location is a bit of a walk from town, but the walk is beautiful and when we didn't feel like walking, Irene and her family were more than happy to drop us off or pick us up. They happily accommodated all of us on a ride up to the Temple of Aphaia as well as the numerous trips to town and restaurants. In addition to the beautiful, quiet setting, we were able to see the Milky Way from our balcony! I found the rooms to be basic, but clean. When a problem was encountered with one of the AC units in a room, Irene was quick to respond and ensure that we were comfortable and happy. They were even kind enough to set up a TV out on the patio so that we could all watch the World Cup under the stars and while listening to the lapping waves of the Aegean.
In addition to the wonderful breakfast that was included each morning complete wth Nikos bringing fresh, warm rolls from the bakery, we ate two dinners at the hotel and they were delicious. I can't believe how much I ate! We tended to find the food at other restaurants lacking when compared to the food prepared by Irene and her sister. Having a chef in the family, food tends to play an important role in our travels and Irene's restaurant tips and Kelly's advice about pairing the ouzo with octopus gave us the inside scoop to make the most of our meals.
Having started our trip on the island of Tinos, we felt we had the best of both worlds at Kavos Bay in being able to experience another island that was still very Greek, but this time we had the benefit of english-speaking hosts who we could understand and ask questions. The Krassas family really is what made this place so special and the reason that my family and I felt a little teary-eyed as we waved to them from the ferry and saw them out on the balcony waving farewell to us. All 13 of us were reluctant to leave and hope that we will be able to visit again.

“Avoid this hotel like the plague!!!”

I attended a conference hosted at this hotel and it was a disaster. The hotel is very basic. The rooms as small and the furnishings are rustic. The bathrooms are disgusting and very unsanitary. The eating area has a pleasant view but the tables and chairs are less than comfortable. The food was very good but that was not enough to make up for the very unpleasant living and working conditions. The hotel is totally unsuited for a conference: no facilities for doing presentations. When a problem occurred about bills, the owners of the hotel became antagonistic and threatened to call the police. Several of my colleagues ended leaving early, in tears. I highly recommend avoiding this hotel.

Isn't it strange how out of 11 reviews, it's only these 2 that are so extremely negative? The truth of the matter is that these are 2 sisters from Canada, together with a couple from New Zealand, the publishers of the review “Shoddy and out of date” who attended an educational seminar, which was being hosted at Kavos Bay. At the end of the seminar they decided that the seminar did not meet their expectations, so they wanted to get their money back. Since the seminar fees were not refundable through the seminar director, they wanted to leave the hotel without paying for their bill “accommodation and meals for 5 days”. This of course was not acceptable by the hotel, as their hotel bill had nothing to do with their seminar fees. We actually had to say that we would call the tourist police, as they were determined to leave without paying. Only because we insisted on getting paid, they wanted to get revenge, so they threatened us by saying, that they would write bad reviews about our hotel on trip advisor and not only. There were 14 participants at this seminar and it was only these 4 that created the problem. We as a company have filed a law suit against these 4 guests for blackmail and for giving our hotel bad reputation with the attempt to get money. I would advise these guests to reconsider keeping their false reviews online as this is a very serious matter and we have eye-witnesses that will testify to all this. They should be ashamed of themselves for lying like this. Even though the entire cost for their seminar was fully paid by their school or university, they obviously wanted the refund to end up in their own pockets.

“Shoddy and out of date”

The pictures of the hotel itself are very misleading. The rooms have a shoddy feeling and the furniture and fixtures are makeshift. We didn't find the owners that hospitable. We were there with a group of people and frankly the amenities were lacking. The best thing about it was the view.

I was there for a week in September and really enjoyed my stay. The location is brilliant and the family who own and run the place are extraordinarily nice and helpful.
