Finding reasonabley priced accommodations anywhere in Switzerland is laughable, but thanks to a group discount (wedding), it wasn't mindblowingly expensive. I also think their regular rates are not as bad as other hotels--I heard it on good authority that the Meierhof is the nicest place to stay in Horgen. We stayed for a week and the staff could not have been nicer or more helpful. When I asked for the closest place to find nailpolish, the desk clerk actually walked with me outside of the hotel to point me towards the store (Migros, land of opportunity). Also, everyone seems to speak English (which is not totally true of everyone in Horgen), which is helpful if you're not conversant in Swiss German. Breakfast is included in the price and seems worth it--I didn't see much better anywhere else and the konditorei nearby faked me out with their beautiful but tasteless croissants. So, enjoy the many dried meats, yogurts, granola, scrambled eggs, and fantastic view from the lounge.
Beds were very comfortable and bathrooms were more than adequate. The coffee in the lobby is amazing, as are the coffee selections with breakfast, so be sure to take advantage. Overall noise between walls was minimal and normally I'm a light sleeper.
Although the website mentions A/C, note that not all rooms come with it, as days requiring A/C are pretty few. We were able to switch our room, which in humid, 85 degree weather, made a huge difference. Keeping your windows open means noise from the train station, which is indeed located 30 seconds from the hotel. That convenience also means trains and taxis coming through. Zurich is 18-20 minutes by train--with the current exchange rate, that came to about $1 per minute. Be sure to take the train to Horgen au lac, otherwise, you'll be in another part of town.
I used the gym several times and also loved the fact that you could do laundry for free (though only one washer and dryer made timing important).
Decent food is hard to come by in Horgen, as the adjacent restaurant is mediocre and prices for dining at L'O are insane, as you're paying for the beautiful view. We found a pretty decent Thai restaurant and sampled the kebab place across the way; otherwise, nothing really notable nearby. If we had access to cooking facilities, we'd definitely take advantage of Migros, which is like Whole Foods combined with Target.
