“Nice resort but lots of room for improvement!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

We stayed at the Insotel Cala Tarida for two weeks at the end of August. The resort is really nice and very well kept. Location-wide is very convenient, only about 30 mins drive from the airport and Ibiza town. Cala Tarida itself is an agglomerate of resorts of various sizes and star ratings. There are a couple of small supermarkets, one or two shops that sell souvenirs/swimmingwear, car rentals. Along the beach there are also three or four nice restaurants, with beautiful views of the bay (especially in the evening).

Rooms
We had a top floor studio (non-sea-view) by the pool near the reception. It was very spacious and quiet. I was told by other guests that some of the studios can be noisy in the evening, with loud music coming from the evening entertainment (which finishes at around 11pm) and loud voices of people walking back to their rooms. We really liked our studio, which had a small kitchenette, with a fridge, electric hob and sink. The only problem was a persistent unpleasant smell which we tried to get rid of by keeping all the windows open all day. The problem was that the maid kept closing them in the morning, when she came to do the room and after we had gone to the beach. I asked her once to keep the open but she said that she couldn't...

Eating
This was a real disappointment as were forced to eat at the main restaurant most of the times. We were on half board and could only eat at the barbecue beach restaurant once a week for lunch. Same for the paella restaurant (one evening/week). We didn't even bother trying the pizzeria as it was the same arrangement and we got fed up with having to queue in the morning to book the restaurants. It's such a shame as Insotel could use more the facilities they have, rather than only opening the nice restaurants three times/week! The eating experience in the main restaurant was quite unpleasant, as it was always really crowded, noisy and sometimes quite cold due to the air conditioning. Food was ok, but we didn't appreciate it much because of the unpleasant ambience...

Pools
Two main pools with a couple of smaller ones for children. The beds were generally all taken by 9.15, with many remaining empty throughout the day. It didn't bother us as we preferred the beach and only visited the pool at the end of the day. The pool by the beach has constant music throughout the day. Generally the pools were overcrowded with people competing to dive and produce the largest splashes (so forget about having a nice swim!). I don't think I've ever been to a place where diving is allowed in the pool, but here it is...

Beach
Cala Tarida is very nice and consists of three little bays, with the one further away from the hotel being the one with the clearest water. The problem is the size of the beach in relation to the number of resorts around it. The result was a human carnage by 11am. Unfortunately this seemed the norm at most beaches in Ibiza as we found when we hired a car for a couple of days...

To conclude, we would not return to this hotel but would probably opt for self-catering accommodation at a smaller resort and at a bigger beach.

Ibiza is a beautiful island but, be warned, it's massively overcrowded in August (even at the end of the month)! Better to go in July/September, so you can enjoy its beautiful beaches and landscapes.

“End of season”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

I had my first all inclusive experience at this hotel and it was positive.
The resort was quiet as it was the end of season, but that suited what I wanted which was a relaxing break in a quiet resort.
It was a bigger resort than I thought from the description. In the peak, I would think that it might be a little too busy - we had to wait for a dinner table some nights and it was only half full. Saying that, food was good. Varied and heaps of fresh fruit and veg. Very tasty fresh fish. I would definitely advise booking at some of their "special" restaurant's as the sunset terrace is lovely.
Rooms were super clean and spacious. The air con worked a treat. Cleaners came in everyday and sheets were changed every two days.
My boyfriend really enjoyed the sports on offer - football, volleyball and water polo were amongst the things he played.
There seemed to be some processes which needed some work e.g. Getting towels and getting onto the wifi both seemed to involve speaking to two people at two different locations on the resort - not really sure why.
They didn't seem to have double beds, which was disappointing.
But, lovely helpful staff and less than a two minute walk from the lower pool to the beach = a winner for me!

“Would go back!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

We had a wonderful week at this hotel with our 9 month old baby. The apartment was nice and spacious and the bathroom was very contemporary. The landscaping of the gardens was beautiful and don't be put off by the reviews of the incline around the hotel or to the beach. As long as you're reasonably fit it's fine and a good way to burn off the extra cals. Both pools are great, top pool has the baby pools and no entertainment (mostly brits too). We really enjoyed getting a drink at the bottom pool bar for the amazing sunsets before dinner.

The buffet restaurant was good, great with a baby as you can choose what they want. I'd say you could cater for all babies here and if not, i'd say the kitchenette is great for making food but we only used it for making bottles.

Staff in the bars and restaurant were friendly but would agree with other reviews regarding reception staff. But apart from checking in and out (total 5 mins!) it didn't affect our hols. Only minor complaint would be the quality of the wine for dinner. Beer good (Estrella) and all international branded spirits and soft drinks but the wine could've cleaned the kitchen top! Still drank it though :) Also and again very minor, the beach is not the cleanest- lots of fag ends!

Tip- don't bother with bringing beach towels, just rent them from the hotel (refundable deposit only) save packing space.

Would love to go back which is a first for me- I think my little man will enjoy the mini disco even more next time!

“brill place...........”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

just returned from tarida beach and i have to agree with previous reviewer raymondo exactly has he explained it...happen to come across this last min deal 4 days before going, week at 285 all inc and definatly saved on drinks and food and food outstanding and drinks flowed lovely ha...it was coming to the end of lock up for winter, each day fewer and fewer people and think it closed on 8th oct when last guests left. counted maybe 10 people around top pool last day we were there but just perfect quiet and relaxing...in jacuzzi with a cocktail most of time, little tip in order for bubbles to stay on place folded straw at top of switch on wall then bubbles dont knock off after 4 min..then came the hard part getting out of jacuzzi to walk 5 paces to the pool bar to order few more cocktails ha.All waiters, bar staff the 4 people on animation team were extremely pleasant at all times... soon as my glass was empty in the entertainment room in evening there was a waiter there, maybe different in height of season when there are hundreds if not a thousand people there.
When season is under way they hold entertainment outside on stage but the last 10 days moved inside because fewer and fewer people around...All nationalities at this hotel and bingo in 5/6 languages was fun......had quiz night, flamenco show, casino night, games night ,bingo etc..kids show was popular and that choo choo wah song sticks in your head be warned lol.
All in all a fantastic place and prices next may - aug range from 580-805 per week..Height of season think it too busy for my liking as 468 rooms and can sleep 4 per room so they may be queues at restaurant and hard to find sun loungers...Uploaded some pics and should be on here soon........
ENJOY YOUR STAY..............
