“Very different holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2011

My partner and I spent 1 week here recently after becoming a little tired of touristy hotels over the last few years.
After reading the description on the b and b's website we kind of knew what to expect. The directions given are good and the place is just 10 mins from the airport. You definately need a car unless you are very adventurous or a good walker .
The rooms are very cool and decorated to compliment the farmhouse style with roughly plastered walls and nice colourful touches.a/c works well but lights could be a bit better as room quite dark at night.Shower was good and nice quality large bottles of shower gel and shampoo were provided as well as a little gift.
The owners work during day but you have a number to contact them. From what we saw there are 3 staff including a lovely lady called Caty who does the breakfast and some housekeeping, also your laundry if you need it!.
The breakfast is a nice continental with addition of eggs as you would like them cooked. The only problem is the flies and i think the breakfast would have been better inside or effective fly catchers installed.
You have the run of the kitchen hot drinks are available at no extra cost and an honesty bar system is in operation which works vey well.An authentic lounge with free internet and a library of books and dvd's are at your disposal.Unfortunately no English channels are available on the t.v
Some days we had the lovely swimming pool to ourselves and there was always a spot to find in the garden if you wanted some peace.
We also enjoyed the animals and the wildlife.
If you like a nice independant holiday and enjoy peace and quiet the place is for you and this is the first time we have stayed anywhere like this and it wont be the last.
Dont go expecting pristine 4 or 5 star facilities and accomodation, accept it for what it is, a unique holiday experience.

p.s. If not for the flies and the kitchen I would have given the rating excellent

“Very nice place, ideal if you want to stay away from busy hotels.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

We stayed one week (came back last Saturday) and had a very good time. The place is beautiful,an old Menorcan country house, very well conserved. Rooms are good size and clean. Service is also very good. Breakfast is abundant and with different options of local products every day, plus... toasts, eggs, jam, yogurts etc.. You can cook your own meals in the kitchen and use the bbq if you like, they do not have any problem with that! They let you use a communal fridge,so you can buy your food and drinks and enjoy them in the lovely outside area near the swimming pool or in one of the gardens. There is also a self service bar and prices are very honest..you just have to note down what you drink and pay at the end of your staying. Once a week they organise a bbq with fresh fish or meat (3 courses menu for 20EUR) and it's a nice occasion to get together with the other hosts.
The owner and staff are very nice and always available to help. We had our flight at 10pm on Saturday and they let us use the room until late as they didn't have any booking for that day.
All in all, we had a very good time and will definitely recommend this place to our friends. The only tiny con that this place has, it's its proximity to the airport,as sometimes you can hear the noise of the aircraft's turbines, however it's not a very busy airport and it closes at 11pm, so didn't bother that much.

Room Tip: North side rooms are bigger or small cottage.

“Interesting place - pros and cons”

We stayed 3 nights here.

The B&B is set in lovely grounds and the converted rooms offer lots of character. The location (despite proximity to the airport) is peaceful.

However, it felt a little like there was lots more the place could offer. Whilst the owners and staff were very pleasant, service was a little haphazard. For instance, because the owners work during the daytime, the hospitality was a little hit and miss. Another minor gripe was that on our departure day, we went to breakfast only to return to our room hoping for a brief rest before packing up, and instead we found that the cleaners had already partially started stripping the room down - this didn't make for a particularly restful departure. Also for the price charged, it would have been more pleasant if the shower curtain did not contain mildew or the bathroom products were a little more imaginative than those sourced from Lidl.

As an aside, there was a minor issue with flies - there seemed to be lots of them constantly!

However, these gripes are minor only and it is impressive that the housekeeper (Katy), an elder lady, manages to supervise breakfast as well as all of the cleaning.

The positives include a lovely pool, fabulous grounds, good breakfast, honesty bar (fully stocked) and a very characterful property.

Overall, worth a stay if only for a few nights.

“desperate to return ASAP hidden jewel”

we stayed here in june 2011 desperatly seeking a tranquil break from the hustle of work and busy lives. We were looking for an alternative to big chain hotels and bland buffet food.
We were cautiousof the thought of b&b although being frequent visitors to menorca spoke little spanish and loved the beaches of santa thomas, but we neednt have worried.
Everywhere on the island is little more than 30 minuets away by car.
Although close to the airport theres only a few flights and you dont hear them.
Breakfast was a delight and the owners and staff very friendly.
The room we stayed in was large and clean with a very comfortable bed and we were made to feel very welcome given the freedom to roam the farm at our ease.
the b&b was difficult to find though as signage is poor please put up a bigger sign.
The drive is also difficult to navigate in a hire car due to close trees and uneven surface especially as hire companies dont cover underside and tyres of cars. However it is very beautifull. If you do go drive to the very end of the drive to find the b&b and a warm welcome and a relaxing comfortable stay away from the hussle and bustle.
we cant wait to return and will be back later in the year.

“Fantastic guest house - a wonderful relaxing stay”

We are just home having spent a week at the beautiful Matchani Gran. I can't rate this place highly enough- the rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated, the pool area and gardens are immaculately kept and an ideal space for relaxing in the sun. We had access to the bar and kitchen at all times. The breakfast was substantial, the scrambled eggs are highly recommended. The hosts, Yolanda and Lawrence couldn't have been more helpful- supplying us with baby stuff, helping us to rent a car and even providing us with food when we were stranded. The nearest town, Sant Clement, is only a few minutes drive away and has one of the best restaurants we have ever eaten at (Es moli de foc). The local beach is pure paradise and we ahd it to ourselves most days.A car is essential and we toured the island most days but were delighted to return to the comfort and peace of Matchani Gran in the evenings. Highly recommended to young and old alike.
