“Lovely location and a friendly welcome.”

We stayed here for 6 days. We had a room with a balcony which was very peaceful. The owner was very friendly and made us most welcome. Rooms are fine. Nothing amazing but spacious and clean. Food is 4 courses Demi pension. It is good however I would not say it is typically French ie chicken and chips one evening. Breakfast is good. Staff are very friendly and service is good. Nice swimming pool. Good location.

When it was good it was very very good-but when it was bad, it was...horrible. The arrival was as you'd expect, except our booking was lost (a mix up with first and surname which does happen to us from time to time). The room was OK-nothing fantastic but OK. The wifi worked fine and was good. The bath was something else-could not get it to fill using taps so had to use the shower to fill the bath. Once full it was large and good. In the morning the temperature of the shower fluctuated and the shower curtain was more a decoration piece that practical-about time they remodelled the bathrooms. We were on demi-pension with special dietary needs which had been emailed ahead and discussed on arrival. As with most French hotels, when you are on demi they allow some flexibility for dislikes. The cooking was OK-quite heavy but acceptable. The problem was it was busy and several staff waited our table and not all of them knew what I could and couldn't eat. However I was fed. The hotel itself was quiet and we slept well. Breakfast was good if you could eat everything and shocking if you couldn't. Substitutes I thought I had ordered didn't materialise, so it was lucky I had my own supply of things I could eat. The owner did have the good grace to discount the bill by 6€ because of the poor breakfast I had. Would we go again, yes, probably...would we like them to fix the bathrooms, lift the cooking a little and make sure substitutes ordered were there-yes, of course.

“Wonderful!”

We chose this hotel because we could not find one in Pau, our friend was driving in the 'Grand Prix Historic' Classic Formula 3 street race and we were tagging along.

What a find!

This hotel is just wonderful, a great location, warm and friendly service (English Speaking), nice clean rooms, good breakfast and a great restuarant. The food was outstanding and the friendly service a real bonus.

We would return there and will do so for a holiday in the future. Nearby hills and good walking country, skiing, river kyaking etc. The outlook from our little balcony was breathtaking.

This is not a modern, pristine hotel, but is great value for money and better than it's 3 star rating.

“Smashing Little Country Hotel...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2007

Le Vieux Logis Hotel lies south of the village of Lestelle Betharram just off the quiet road that leads to the "Grottes de Betharram" where you can have a great underground experience ending with a thrilling mini-train ride to the mouth of the caves. Adult cost in August 2007 was eleven euros.

The hotel itself sits in a very peaceful country location along its own private driveway. There are some forty rooms - all quite spacious and the majority look out on the courtyard and swimming pool. Our room was clean and comfortable with a little balcony and a mini-fridge.

The hotel is family-owned and most welcoming. Being a "Logis de France" hotel it has its own restaurant which is excellent. The dinner menu of the day was mouthwateringly delicious and given the quality of the fare represented very good value for money with local cheeses and wines. The breakfast buffet was also very good.

I chose to stay at this hotel because of its proximity to Lourdes which we visited after a fifteen minute drive. I guess if you are a devout Christian you would be enamoured by this Pyreneen town but to me it was just weird with plastic holy water bottles for sale along with giant prayer candles and wheelchair congestion near the cave where St Bernadette allegedly met with Mary in the mid-nineteenth century.

I thought the Vieux Logis was a smashing, authentically French and hospitable hotel which I have no hesitation in recommending to fellow travellers. There was a well stocked bar and I enjoyed free internet access. It is one of the best three star hotels I have ever stayed in.
