“Found:- a perfect place to stay”

There are places which become very special - La Haute Manceliere is absolutely one of those. It is the subtle combination of many ingredients which makes it so.
The setting, the surrounding fields and working farms, the friendliness of the immediate neighbours and those in nearby villages all contribute.
Then there are the large beautiful grounds which provide activities for the energetic and peaceful shade or space in the sun for those less so inclined! And for all there is the delight of a swmimming pool kept at a pleasant temperature whatever the weather.
Someone has to make all this work, which Susan does with grace and elegance, warmth and great kindness.
Before we send this we think we should book now for next year!

Room Tip: Depends entirely on size of group. All the gites are very attractive, and for a small group -two ad...

“La Haute Manceliere, a gem in the countryside!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

Set in a lovely peaceful country location but so close to all the amenities and main roads to take advantage of visiting the many beautiful Medieval towns and beaches that Brittany has to offer.
The accommodation was excellent and having a swimming pool to use everyday was great. The welcome was special - the cake and wine - a much appreciated personal touch - thank you Susan.

“Wonderful place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2011

My friends and our babies had a wonderful time at La Haute Manceliere. The accommodation is very baby friendly and the large garden with the pool, swing and trampoline was great too. We also appreciated the free use of the bikes! Susan, the owner, was really friendly and helpful and we would definitely recommend the place. There are also some good things to do in the local area but you need a car.

“Another Fantastic Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2011

Susan greeted us with a delicious home baked cake and a bottle of local French wine, and was very friendly and helpful. This was our second stay here and we really liked the new decoration, it was very tasteful and the rooms were spacious, comfortable and have great views of the countryside. The heated pool outside was a huge hit again with children ranging from 22 months to 12 years as was the boules area, trampoline and and swings/climbing frames.
Cycling to nearby Cogles St Brice for fresh bread in the morning on one of the many bikes to borrow was fab as were trips to Fougeres, Rennes and Tremblay. In the past we have visited Dinan, Mont St Michel and The forest at Villecartier, all of which I'd do again. Cogles St Brice has great shops including a superb boulangerie and creperis which we visited most days. A trip to a french fete in nearby Tremblay was my 8 year old daughter's favourite day. We will certainly return

“Another fantastic holiday at La Haute Manceliere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2011

The Allison family have just had another fantastic holiday at La Haute Manceliere. We stayed in les Alouettes with our 2 daughters Lily (7) and Eloise (3) and their nana.
The Sunday morning market at Betton provided the perfect start to our holiday. It’s a busy bustling market which seemed to be full of locals. The many varied stalls gave us the opportunity to try out our holiday French whilst stocking up on plenty of fresh produce. With many of the stall holders coming from the Saturday market at Rennes this market dropped us right in the middle of the rural French lifestyle.
This was our second visit to La Haute Manceliere and nothing has changed – everything is still spot-on for our ideal family holiday. The location of La Haute Manceliere is in the middle of nowhere (wonderfully quiet) but close to a large supermarket at St Brice-en-Cogles and a delicious patisserie at Tremblay, we all love their cakes. The roads around the gite were quiet enough for Lily and I (with Eloise on the back) to borrow Susan’s bikes ride down to the cycle track. We cycled for an hour without seeing anyone but horses and cows. For days out from La Haute Manceliere nothing seems too far, from Mont st Michel (north) to Rennes (south) and Fougeres (east) to Dinan (west). Our favourite days out were Dinan, Rennes and the forest of Villecartier where Lily loved the tree walking and Eloise the pony rides. We also all enjoyed the la Bourbansais Zoo. Back at La Haute Manceliere the gite was clean and tidy; all the beds were comfortable and living areas relaxing. The well-stocked store cupboard in the kitchen is one of those small touches that add to the easiness of this holiday. Outside in the garden the relaxation continues with plenty on garden furniture for adults to sit at while the children play on swings, trampoline, football pitch, boules court or just run around the large lawn. Last and best is the swimming pool, heated so that it makes you smile when getting in. the pool is large enough to accommodate everyone and plenty of inflatables to play with. It was after 9 o clock and dark before we could get our girls out on our last night. Sun loungers around the pool also provide somewhere to sit.
We finished our holiday with a delightful meal at le Leon D’ore in st Brice. At around 18 euros the set price menu is similar to “la farme Nerve” but the menu choice is varied and the food delicious. I can recommend both restaurants.
We will be back soon to La Haute Manceliere and to discover even more about this area of France.
