“Had a lovely steak here and will return again and again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2011

Hello
went here for a meal on the 15th Jan 2011. Have been here a few times before for just a drink. They have revamped the bar area and restaurant and and toilets and it is now very relaxing and trendy and there are loads of places to sit and relax. Plenty of soft comfy seating too. We first had a drink and looked at the bar menu which had loads of choices for good prices. They also had lite bites and sandwiches which souded good( jackets spuds for £4.95 and sandwiches for £4.50 etc ). We also looked at the restaurant menu and decided to eat in the restaurant. You can eat the bar menu in the restaurant for an extra £2 per person. Anyway we had steak off the restaurant menu for £13.95 a person.

We went through to the restaurant which is set near the bar but behind a 3/4 high wall for privacy. The restaurant is nicely decorated and furnished and has a nice atmosphere with candles and nice lighting. We were shown to a table straight away and decided to go straight for a main. We both ordered the 10oz steak which came with onion rings, tomatoes and mushrooms and peppercorn sauce and chips. I decided to have a jacket spud instead with mine which was no problem at all. We also got a hot bread roll while waiting for our steak. The steak took about 15 minutes and it was juicy and tasty and everything was very nice. Onion rings and sauce and everything tasted great. I really enjoyed it. My hubby then had a dessert for £4.95 which looked yummy( treacle pudding with custard) and he enjoyed every mouthful. I was too full to eat a dessert myself.

More people started coming into the restaurant as we finished our food( we eat quite early around 6.30pm) and by the time we left it was about half full. Many people were also eating food through the bar area. When we asked for the bill we got a selection of chocolate mints which was nice. The meal was very good and value was good and service was very good. We then had another drink in the bar area after.

I will be going back for sure as The Pier has a great atmosphere and the service and food and drinks are good value. They also have chairs outside overlooking the sea for the summertime. The place is warm and comfy. I highly recommend it for drinks and or food. Not stayed in the Hotel so cannot comment on the rooms. Looking forward to going back soon.

“An excellent Sunday Lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2010

I live in the area and visit the Pier Hotel every now and then for a Sunday lunch. The restaurant and ground floor has had a major makeover and is very smart! The Sunday lunch menu is varied and excellent value. The staff waiting on are attentive and friendly, and make it part of the pleasure dining here.

We always book a table in the restaurant, although there does also seem to be bar food available as well. Full marks Sunday Lunch!

“Mostly Good”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2010

We had a room with a great view of the beach. The room was tidy and clean and the bathroom likewise. The room and some of the hotel's decorations needed some attention (scuff marks, peeling wall paper, and threadbare carpets) but the hotel’s ground floor had obviously received a lot of attention and looked smart. The staff were all attentive and pleasant. Service was prompt in the restaurant and bar. The food was average though – a limited menu of typical pub food, good size portions though. Breakfast was less than average; I'd rate it as poor. This is a shame as in all other respects it was a great place to stay.

“Great hotel, excellent food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2010

Myself and boyfriend had stayed in a hotel in the sea front great yarmouth and was not to great. On the sunday we decided to drive park up for a walk along the seafront. We came across this hotel and were just going to pop in for a drink. We ended up spending all day sitting outside this lovely hotel, having drinks and we decided to stay, we were able to look at the room prior to paying. Room 14 was lovely. The beef roast and cheesecake were amazing and we have booked to return in aug 2010 for my boyfriends b/day. Highly recommend this hotel

“Had more customer service in macdonalds.”

Didnt stay at hotel but used there restaurant for a leaving do of 10 people. Looked very nice done out very well .. we were told to order our meal at the bar?? but pay 2£ extra then go to the sitdown bit. why we couldnt order the meal at the table was unknown?

Sat down all well comfortable chairs. we had drinks from the bar when we placed our order but asked for water at the table. We were given an approx 1litre jug of water(for 10 of us)!! so 100mls each!! we did ask for more but none arrived.
Our meals arrived looking nice.. i had the pasta so did a friend. it was warm on the outside but frozen in the middle.. It had garlic bread on the side but that was ok.
we ask the waitress to sort this out so they took both plates away. returned then.. mixed the plates up it was the same food as they took away and had been microwaved.. so was chewy and disgusting. Thank goodness i order chips as they were hot so i wasnt hungry. The waitresses were busy busy but there was only us and a couple eating. After our food,, we waiting 1hr for the bill..as we had dessert but they allowed us to order that at the table.. so we left the money on the table.. as they were more concerned with getting breakfast things out for the next morning,
we left disgusted!! i have contacted the pier hotel twice and waited 24hrs from each telephone call.. no response back.. will not be recommending this resturant to anyone..
my advice is DONT BOTHEr paying 10£ for a meal that had been microwaved!! and service that would make macdonalds cry!
:( unhappy :( and shame the manager didnt bother to call me bk so i could discuss it with him further before this review.
