“Good Hostel, great value. tiny tiny tiny rooms.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

Amazingly inexpensive for a hotel in Tokyo, very near Asakusa.

Hard to find, its off an alley. Bring a map.

Near subway, 100yen stores, 99 yen stores, McD's.

Basic rooms. Really tiny. Seriously tiny. If you choose a room with a bathroom ensuite, the bathroom rivals airline bathrooms for size, including the shower!

But for an inexpensive stay in this part of Tokyo, it is awesome.

“Friendly, nice hotel close to subway stations”

Located near Ueno Station and not far from Asakusa historical temple area, this hotel is ideal for the budget traveller. The staff are friendly and helpful. There are books you can borrow and take up to your room for the evening, a little kitchen with a microwave and stove in the common room.
The rooms are small, but have all necessary amenities. I preferred the Japanese room to the Western one because the set-up was more charming. They give you little yakuta robes to wear after bathing or showering. The minisucle ensuite washroom comes with the cutest little tub that I soaked in after a long, tiring day of touring Tokyo. After bathing, you get out, put on the yakuta robe and make yourself a cup of green tea that the room also provides.

One advantage to this hotel is that if you plan to use Tokyo as your base and travel around Japan they let you store your luggage in a locker room, provided you come back to stay in this hotel on the way back.
We stayed in the Japanese room first. When we returned we were booked in the Western room which was not as pleasant as the Japanese one. Maybe it was just this particular room, but the TV was placed on a desk near the window in the oddest place so you couldn't relax in bed and watch tv. The spacing of the furniture was not logical in this room even though it was slightly bigger than the Japanese room. We tried to find another room, but they were all booked. Maybe this was just one odd Western room.
Still, my experience here was overall postive. I rented a bike and explored the neighborhood. There is a guy at the reception who speaks French, English and Japanese and is very helpful to guests.

“Best central location in peaceful Ueno”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 April 2011

Stayed here in Sept 2009 (not Sept 2010) for about 2 weeks. Have no problem communicating with the staff via email in English. When my partner and I first reached there, we were dragging our luggage all the way from the Ueno station for about 15mins, which we later found out that there is a nearest underground station is just 1 min walk from the hotel.

Having been to several hotels in Tokyo, for the price we paid for, this seems to be somewhat affordable, plus the complimentary high speed LAN that was really useful for us since we are working remotely.

If you're not used to Japanese room sizing, you'll find the room and toilet pretty cramped up. The rooms are made up daily, even the toiletries are replenished too!

Although located away from the hustle and bustle, Ueno seems to be a good central location for food and also to access other parts of Japan via the Ueno Station. Restaurants here open until 10pm.

“Tiny rooms, tiny price but great blace”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 March 2011

I stayed there 1 week. Rooms are small, just like everything in Japan. Beds are japanese style, hard. Rooms were clean and nice. Shower/toilet in the room was the smallest I've ever seen. Hotel staff is great! Wlan worked in the room. Hotel was quiet. Location is great, close to UENO where you get fast train to Airport and train/subway around the city.

“friendly”

Actually my stay to the Oak Hotel was in the summer of 2008.The calender here wouldn't let me past 2010.Nevertheless my stay at this quaint little hotel was lovely and suited the needs of my daughter and me for our overnight stay before heading to Shibuya the next day.The reception staff were very friendly (and English speaking)which was a worry to me as i have no words of Japanese!!!We arrived from the airport at about 1.30am,hot and hungry. The concierge was helpful in pointing me in the direction to a 7Eleven,about a block away.
The rooma are quite small and rather traditional, with low to the floor beds and fresh cotton kimono's for us to wear.Complimentary Japanese green tea was my saviour on that hot night.I will definately reccomend this hotel to other travellers.i hope to return one day in the near future.
