The Shigetsu Ryokan is located Asakusa, a short walk from the main metro line linking many of Tokyo's attractions. It is also a short walk from Tokyo's largest Buddhist temple.
My family and I stayed there over New Year 2010-2011 so it was great to witness the pilgrims to the temple. Also the temple grounds have outdoor food stalls where one can grab at quick bite to eat and at a reasonable price.
The rooms itself are quite small, typical for Tokyo. We had the Japanese style room with the roll up futons. The room and hotel were very clean and well presented. We had the the double room for two adults and a baby. Our campanions had a triple room for three adults. The triple room is much larger than the double, and if your budget allows, it would be better to have the triple room even for only two people.
The hotel also features its own hot tub for taking an extended soak.
In the region around the hotel, there were countless eating places and Asakusa is not quite as busy as other parts of Tokyo.
It was a well located, clean hotel with staff who spoke some English. The only downside was the requirement to be out of your room between 10 am and 3 pm whilst cleaning was done. Fine if you're sightseeing, not great if you have a baby that needs a morning sleep.
