This was my second time staying here and I really like the traditional rooms with the futons and tatami mats. Very comfy! The Japanese breakfast is also superb--very good value and quality. In general, the staff is very helpful, and the location near Sensoji Temple is really great, especially around New Year, when there is a lot going on. I have rated this hotel very good rather than excellent for two reasons: 1) whenever we have stayed here it is after an overnight flight from Singapore. It would be great to be able to check into our room a little earlier than 3 pm, but the ryokan seems not to want to budge on this, so we have to wander around half-dead for several hours. Yet, checkout time is quite early at 10 am. Can it really take five hours to turn over a room that has only foldaway futons in it? 2) I really wish the ryokan would provide a wifi connection. Currently you have to borrow a WLAN cable, which seems very behind-the-times for a city like Tokyo. And oddly, there is no free wifi to be had at places like Starbucks either. Lastly, just an observation about the public bath--it is beautiful, but if you're at all inclined to modesty you might want to bring a swimsuit. The door to the women's bath has only a half-curtain over it, and the changing area is plainly visible from the hallway. Oddly, the men's bath is set further in and hence has more privacy. But all in all, I really like this place and would stay here again.
