“Only wish they had wifi ...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

This was my second time staying here and I really like the traditional rooms with the futons and tatami mats. Very comfy! The Japanese breakfast is also superb--very good value and quality. In general, the staff is very helpful, and the location near Sensoji Temple is really great, especially around New Year, when there is a lot going on. I have rated this hotel very good rather than excellent for two reasons: 1) whenever we have stayed here it is after an overnight flight from Singapore. It would be great to be able to check into our room a little earlier than 3 pm, but the ryokan seems not to want to budge on this, so we have to wander around half-dead for several hours. Yet, checkout time is quite early at 10 am. Can it really take five hours to turn over a room that has only foldaway futons in it? 2) I really wish the ryokan would provide a wifi connection. Currently you have to borrow a WLAN cable, which seems very behind-the-times for a city like Tokyo. And oddly, there is no free wifi to be had at places like Starbucks either. Lastly, just an observation about the public bath--it is beautiful, but if you're at all inclined to modesty you might want to bring a swimsuit. The door to the women's bath has only a half-curtain over it, and the changing area is plainly visible from the hallway. Oddly, the men's bath is set further in and hence has more privacy. But all in all, I really like this place and would stay here again.

“Outstanding place to stay in North Tokyo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2011

This is a typical ryokan (Japanese Inn) with tatami floors and futons and communal baths on the top floor. They do have western rooms too. It is very close to Senso-Ji temple and surrounded by Asakusa centre with shops selling traditional products and plenty of restaurants. It is close to subway stations. The place is spotless if wearing slightly and we saw no bugs of any sort and the owners devote enormous effort to ensuring that your stay is as good as possible. Although not the cheapest place in Tokyo, you will enjoy the peaceful neighbourhood while being able to drop into the city in 15 minutes.

“Good place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2011

I stayed for 6 nights in a western style single room and I can't complain about anything.
The cleanliness is not perfect but still good.
The whole Hotel is a bit worn by a lot of guests that stayed there.
The service is very friendly and they try to help you as good as they can but since the staff changes very often it is possible that this might vary over the year.

I had a very good sleep during my stay and no problem with bed bugs (I never had in this Hotel and this was the third time I stayed there).

The best thing about the Hotel is the breakfast it is very good and is served in a very nice way and it is always fresh.
For the people who like continuity the breakfast might be not so great since it changes every day but for me it was fun and I liked it.

Another great thing about the Hotel is that it is located near Senso-Ji temple so there is much to see in the neighborhood.
A bit of a draw back is the fact that it is not very close to the Shibuya district so if you want to go out to a concert you might have to leave earlier in order to catch the last train back but I think you can't blame the Hotel for this since this is a matter of public transportation in Tokyo.

The english of the Hotel staff is quiet good but as I pointed out earlier this might vary due to the frequently changing staff.

There is a curfew in this Hotel but this is generally no problem since you can access over a pin code at the front door (you might have to ask for it).

My last point is that you should be aware that Asakusa is a tourist spot so there will be many people around you if you choose to stay there.

As in the years before it was a very enjoyable stay.

“Bed bugs back again...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2011

Everything is nice in this place, the location, the atmosphere, the people, the onsen, the look of the rooms...I just wish they could get rid of these bed bugs that have been mentioned every now and then in past reviews. Having seen no mention of them for the last couple of years, I assumed the problem had been solved, but they obviously are of a tenacious sort...

“Nice place, Old Tokyo feel, great access”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 June 2011

Truly a 3-min walk from train, with one connection from Narita airport. Easy enough for a first-time Japan tourist! Has both Japanese rooms and western rooms. MOST helpful staff. Can't say enough about the desk clerk who walked me to the room, introduced me to when and where I should wear the slippers and robe. She came back with a LAN cable for me. Extremely quiet neighborhood. I haven't heard any noise from my 4th floor room. Why am I not giving it a "5"? Maybe just because I am not quite as comfortable sitting on a fairly flat firm floor cushion instead of a chair.
