“Good hotel in Ueno”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2011

I've arrived at the Ueno station in the evening after travelling from Europe, so several hours of flying.
I've had some difficulty in finding the hotel even if I had a google map of the area, especially the area outside the railways station is a little misleading.
Anyway, after you know where the hotel is it is very easy to come back to the hotel.
I've chosen this hotel because it is not expensive and quite near to the underground station.
The area is very calm so if you like more "life" this is not a good area for you.
The breakfast was not included in the price so we went in some place near the hotel.
As it is usual in Japan there is no difficulty in finding a restaurant and we have found a little restaurant that we liked.
The hotel is a typical business hotel but clean and safe. We have spent there 5 nights.

We arrived here, first port of call. So handy to JR rail and skyline. Excellent local attractions. Other than small rooms if you plan to stay a while, this place is perfect.

“nice place and good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2011

we stayed there for 4 nights, very clean hotel/room, friendly staff, free internet connection and free computer at the reception. beds are bit smaller but that's very common in Japan unless you pay extra for a queen/king size .. very convenient location, 15 mins from Tokyo by train and at Ueno Staion there's a Hard Rock Cafe which we love! so it was a big plus! would definitely stay there again.

“authentic neighbourhood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2010

The hotel is about 5 min walk from Ueno train/metro/keisei skyliner station
and a few steps from Inaricho metro station from where you can get to Asakusa (on foot it's about 20 min). Plus, about 10 min walk from Ueno park with the National Museum and zoo!
The rooms may be small, but there was enough space for me(I stayed in a single). Plus they have everything one might need (all Japanese hotels seem to have everything:). The staff was very nice and extremely helpful.
There wasn't great variety of food for breakfast to pick from, but if you like Japanese style - it was quite good.
The area is great for someone who likes to watch how ordinary people live in Japan. Mostly small houses with shops, workshops and other sort of enterprises.
Ueno station restaurants are great for lunch, Asakusa district for dinner (e.g. Maguro-Bito, some tempura shops and also look for a small sushi stand up bar somewhere vis a vis Kaminarimon gate - on the opposite side of the street). and BTW, what's very important - don't trust cliches about Japan as sooooo expensive. you can always find delicious food for reasonable money (cheaper than Western Europe).
I really enjoyed staying in this area - there's a feeling of authenticity in it (in opposition to shiny and noisy streets of central Tokyo).

“Reasonable price for Tokyo but not in high tourist area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2010

If you don't mind traveling a bit to central or western Tokyo where most of the sights are, then this Ueno hotel is ideal. Rooms with single bed are tiny, barely enough to fit just the bed. I saw some adjacent rooms with double beds and those rooms sizes were similar to western standards.

There's no wifi in room, but there's an outlet to plug an internet wire. there's 2 pcs with internet access in lobby.

there's also a chinese restaurant adjacent to the hotel. typically has many business clients.
