“Perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

This is a modern but still Japanese style accommodation. Sleep on the floor but with the comfort of an en suite.

Breakfast is nice, cheaper continental option (toast, tea/coffee, juice) or hot breakfast with eggs. Hotel is immaculately kept.

3 minute walk to Sendagi station on the subway line, 7 minute walk to Nippori on The JR Yamanote line. The Keisei train from Narita stops at Nippori which is very handy.

There are little shops and old houses in the streets surrounding the hotel which makes it a nice area to wander around. You can walk all the way to Ueno park and the museums.

Room Tip: The cheaper room for 2 of us was big enough, no need to spend extra on a bigger room.

“Great place - will definitely stay there again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

This place is fantastic. It is hard to believe it exists in a bustling place like Tokyo!

You can walk to the ryokan from Sendagai and Nippori stations - very handy having two different lines to choose from.

The street outside is so sleepy and old-style. It is only open to cars for part of the day. Close to all needed amenities such as convenience store, pharmacy, 7-11, tourist info shop, etc. Cats seem to be loved in Yanaka and you'll see some roaming about and lots of store selling kitty goods.

Room is good sized and the bathroom is modern and western. Free wi-fi. Fridge, TV, air con, lots of wardrobe space. Free internet computers - I checked in to my outbound flight and printed my boarding pass. Washing machines too.

Only down side to the ryokan is that the key has a plastic thing attached which turns on the air con - when it's not in the air con slot in your room, no air con. I was there is Summer and it was hot so not nice coming back to a warm room.

“Very clean, comfortable and convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2011

Our family of four stayed here for six nights. It was very convenient to subway and JR yamonte line. Very quiet at night and exceptionally clean. There were plenty of restaurants and shops around so we ate different food every night. It is an easy walk from the NIppori station even with two small children and all our luggage. We enjoyed the walk as it is through the local suburb street so we could suss out which restaurants we wanted to eat at.
The wi-fi was a bit patchy but we survived. The staff were very friendly and helpful. This ryokan lives up to its reviews and we would stay again!

Room Tip: We got a deluxe room for four people with own ensure

“Wonderful Old-Town Yanaka”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

We stayed here for 7 days/6 night over Thanksgiving week. We chose this inn in Yanaka because we wanted something different from our last hotel in downtown Tokyo, and we love it! We especially love the wonderful and meandering side streets and quaint neighborhoods, the temples big and small, the cafes, restaurants, gift shops. The subway stop is a straight shot from the airport with the Limited Express (1,000 yen), about 70 minutes. Mind you, the "short walk" to the inn is not that short with luggage, so be warned; we lugged our bags down cobblestone streets and stairs. it's definitely short once you're baggage-free. I love the local Taito bus (100 yen!)--try it! It drives even into the narrowest streets and you get a wonderful glimpse of the neighborhood and houses of Yanaka. I recommend taking this little bus to Ueno for your trip back to Narita. It stops right outside the inn, takes less than 20 minutes to Ueno station, which is the first stop for the Limited Express to the airport. You'll get ample seats in the train before it fills up fast at the next Nippori stop. We'll definitely stay here again!
