“It was interesting experience...but so-so”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2010

It's far from the station over the Sumida river about 10 minutes walk.

We got a 3 room but had 4 bunks, it was small but it's just a place to sleep, not a hotel. The little dining area on the top floor where our rooms were was quite small. Hard to sit around without worrying that a door would open or someone wanted to get into their room.

Sharing bathrooms I found icky...Don't like wet floors of the only one bathroom on the floor. It's not recommended if you have suitcases like we did...hauling up those flights of stairs were so dangerous!!!!
you had to be real careful because if you fell, you would be done for....

Some of the staff were nice, but I found most of the time they were a bit snooty but i just ignored it...maybe they had something I don't know. We never were notified of parties that were apparently happening so when we returned one night there was a Halloween party happening.

So it's a good place to just sleep, meet some interesting people and rude people, squished place to brush your teeth or apply makeup///as the dining tables were in the way and didn't like to interrupt someone eating to move to do your grooming...

Beds were comfortable but not in the way you probably are used to at home, they dorm beds are bunks with wiring.

Also around the corner is a cheap LAWSON 100 Yen shop, you could buy so much food here so cheap.

I would give it a 5/10

I never thought I could get such a confortable, clean and spacious room for such a fair price. And besides that the staff at the reception could speak good English which is a tremendous asset in Tokyo!

“One of the best hostels I've ever stayed at!!!! I highly recommend!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 May 2010

A really great place to stay in Tokyo! Well located, at Asakusa area, 5min from nearest train station. Very nice and helpful staff, really clean rooms and bathrooms, cool common area with nice kitchen, 8 computers and free wi-fi. I stayed in a dorm with "private beds" or bunks with doors giving perfect privacy, loved that! One of my friends was a first timer in hostels, very afraid of the "mixed dorm" but she was so pleased with the place! Annex is part of a 5 hostels chain, all in the same area, sharing a small bar where everyone gathers at the end of the day for some sake and making new friends. I do highly recommend, and definately want to come back!

“Good average place”

Good place - stayed two nights with one friend in a private room.

Room was pretty tiny but clean. Location is decent for Uedo Park but I wouldn't stay in this area for an entire stay in Tokyo again. Its a bit far from everything you'd want to see/do. Its a pretty residential area.

The walls are paper thin so you can hear just about everything that goes on.

Lots of people stay there so it was nice to interact with a few of the other guests. Large common area and tons of good computers/fast internet.

Would stay again.

“I was worried about coming here as per...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 March 2010 via mobile

I was worried about coming here as per the reviews but we had already booked and paid the deposit so had no choice. We arrived to stay in a standard twin then change to a budget twin. The stndard twin was fine clean and massive storage space and we both fit on the bottom bunk ( we being a couple but no doubles were available even though we booked a month in advance) a small living area was nice and it had a kitchen and large tv the shower was clean snd the loo also, the bed sheets were also clean.
when we moved from standard to budget we were a little worried but the room was clean even though extremly small we stored our bags on the bottom bunk And slept on the top bunk. The sheets looked clean but had hairs on but after picking them off it was ok the shower smelt damp but was clean and so was the loo.. Everything else was just as every other hostel is good facilities a common room Internet access lockers. Location in ok only 10 mins was from the station and a 100 yen lawson is around the corner. Good place to stay considering the cost. From what I see there are no bed bugs but the dorms might be different.
