If you do your research, you will find that the Sunroute chain hotels are a business hotel. In Tokyo, this means small but clean rooms, good service, and few frills. I have stayed at two Sunroute hotels, the Takadanobaba location that I am reviewing now, and one in Nagoya. Both of my stays were excellent. This time, I was traveling with my fiance. Our room barely had enough space for our luggage and the two of us, but we knew this ahead of time and it was not a problem. The room was clean and comfortable when we weren't jumping over our luggage to get from one side of the room to the other.

The location of the hotel is excellent, it is literally across the street (and a small street at that) from both the rail station and the "Big Box." Big Box is a very large, very square building that is a shopping center of sorts. It has a Uniqlo (kind of a Japanese Gap), some restaurants, an arcade, bowling, and various other shops. The surrounding streets of the Takadanobaba area have plenty more to offer in terms of shops and restaurants. The next station down from Takadanobaba is Waseda, which is the location of a prominent Japanese university. So the surrounding areas (including Takadanobaba) have plenty of (mostly) reasonably priced shops and restaurants.

Overall, I highly recommend this hotel for it's location, neighborhood, cleanliness, and professional service (some of the staff will speak English, though others may not). If you are not traveling alone, keep in mind that the rooms are quite small for more than one person. On the positive side, many Japanese hotels charge an extra fee for a second person, this hotel did not.

This hotel was perfect. Like what everyone else says, it's across the street from the Takadanobaba subway station. The room didn't seem so small as I expected, just typical Japan size. It wasn't giant but totally livable for 2 people on vacation. Super clean and well decorated.

Across the street from JR Takadanobaba Sta Waseda Exit. Big box across the street as other mentioned with a Uniqlo and 100 Yen shops and some sports facilities upstairs.

Staff friendly and efficient, will store bags for you at the front desk. Computer in lobby for use...free internet in room.

Room was relatively decent size for a TWIN bedded room. Window on 10th floor looked out onto rooftop, not much view but better than nothing. PIcture of beds same as on web site. Bathroom was capsule style where you step out, ours was a bit larger than the other TWIN room I saw. See pic.

I saw the double-bed rooms, they are TINY with TINY bathrooms. Bewarned if you stay in one of those. I have uploaded pics of those for you.

Overall great stay for the price and convenient. Staff friendly and room very clean. Decent size for twin rooms, double rooms are small.

We stayed in this hotel for three nights, which is conveniently situated close to Shinjuku. The hotel is clean, the staff friendly and the rooms are very small. There is very little space to keep your belongings. We had to keep all our belongings packed in our suitcases while staying here.

But the room had no view at all. The windows wer frosted so ther were no contact with the outside world. Ths is not a room for people with claustrofobia! The hotel calls this type of room Standard Twin Room.
