“Loved it! Super clean, great location, good price & great staff.”

After staying at a horrible hotel (Washington Hotel) for two nights, I decided to look for a better one and found the Presso Inn. The staff really made you feel welcome and my room was super clean, like the rest of the hotel. The complimentay breakfast was delicious.

If I ever go back to Japan I'll for sure stay at this hotel and I highly recommend it to other travelers.

“A good location for solo female foreign travelers like me”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2010

I didn't expect much as this is an inn but was pleasantly surprised that it was located only a few minutes from the key offices in Shinjuku. It wasn't as much of a hassle to travel or go here if you do business or have a conference near the area.

If you're hungry, there are various restaurants for soba, gyudon (good ol' Yoshinoya), some cafes and restaurants around this area. If you're saving, there's a Lawson convenience store at the ground floor of the hotel.

The room was very small studio type room which I think was perfect for a female solo traveler like me. I'm always out of the hotel anyway exploring Tokyo so this is a welcome break from all the hostels. The room itself was very clean with complete amenities. It is also very quiet so nothing will disturb you. The bed mattress is quite hard though so I have some trouble relaxing. Nevertheless, the sheets and pillow (Tempur pillow) are soft.

The breakfast has croissants and breads which are top quality. There is overflowing juice and coffee in the breakfast area which has a very friendly and comforting "home" ambiance where travelers meet.

For a gaijin (foreigner) like me, the most important thing is that the staff was helpful, courteous, kind and knows how to speak English. I stayed at a grander hotel nearby than this before but the staff here is better! They were helpful in giving me help on how to get around Tokyo as well as answering my questions on how to say certain Japanese phrases as I travel. I am grateful for the staff for the great experience!

There is also a 100 yen bus that goes around Shinjuku from Keio Plaza Hotel to the west exit of Shinjuku station. You'll get there to Shinjuku station in 10 minutes for such an affordable amount. The bus starts at around 7 and ends at around 9 pm. If you're traveling late, you have to take a 15-20 minute walk from the station.

My only complaint is that the inn entrance is located at the 2nd floor. They turned off the escalator going to the 2nd floor so I had to carry my luggage around 20 steps up the stairs which was grueling. (It's an inn so there's no room service.) I was able to use the elevator to the ground floor once I was able to check in but this first time up the stairs with my luggage was really exhausting.

All in all though, it has warm service and good value for money. If you're a traveler in Shinjuku, this is a great place!

“Affordable convenient hotel in a central location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 April 2009

A quick 10 minute walk from the south exit of Shinjuku station this hotel was easy to find (the sign at the top of the building can be seen from 5 minutes down the road). The staff speak basic English and although the rooms are tiny are fine for the solo traveller. Rooms are extremely clean and they offer pastries for free for breakfast. I found the location extremely convenient for sight seeing and recommend this hotel for an affordable, simple and safe hotel. Free internet is also a huge bonus.

“Great value in Tokyo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2008

After suffering a week in a youth hostel with a sports team I was so glad to find a civilised clean hotel which was reasonably priced in Shinjuku Tokyo.

It can be difficult to find hotels as they are not easily recognisable but the Presso Inn has a sign which can be seen from the street (providing you look up when you are walking). It is within walking distance of the South Exit of Shinjuku Station and is easy to find.

It is immaculately clean although the rooms are small. All Tokyo hotel rooms are small. The price is very reasonable Y8400 single and Y11550 double or twin. That is really good value in Tokyo where hotels are expensive and it includes breakfast. There is a coin operated laundry and a convenience store in the hotel as well as the ever present vending machines. I would recommend this hotel. I have stayed in other places in Tokyo and this is by far the best.

  • Liked — reasonable price and great for business.Wireless internet in lobby and cable in room (supplied)
  • Disliked — Not being able to check in til 4pm despite the room being available earlier

“Budget room at a budget price”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2006

Booked this hotel for a business trip in Shinjuko since it was right by my destination. English is spoken at the front desk so you can call and make a reservation. This is a small budget hotel, and accomodations match the price, which is very low by Tokyo standards. This may be a good choice for a quick one night stay, but not much more. This hotel is about 4-6 blocks from the local restaurants that speak English and Takashimaya Times Square / Shinjuku station. You should get a cab from the station to this hotel.

This brand has no comparable US 2, 3, or 4 star hotel. It may equate to a motel.

Room: Very small. Just large enough to fit the bed and TV table. The desk is not large enough to work at. Very little room for luggage. The TV has no foreign stations (e.g., CNN, BBC, etc.). Telephone usage is only available through the use of pre-paid calling cards which are available in the lobby. Internet access if available in the room. The shower is just large enough to fit a single person. The shower and faucet utilize the same water supply, so you need to select. The bed is large enough for a quick night's sleep. You get one small window. The room is very dark. The photo of the single room on their website is very accurate!

Cleanliness: Very good.

Environment: If you travel to Tokyo, you will find that they love to keep things warm, and this hotel is no exception. Even in the heat of summer, you will find the room about 80 degrees. Cooling system worked very well in the room, though the elevator and hallways will make you sweat in the summer.

Check In/Service: There was always someone there that understood just enough English to get by. Very friendly staff.

Overall: Not recommended for a business trip. May be good for a quick stop.
