“Not so central location, but strikes a good balance of quality and price.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 May 2012 NEW

I stayed here for 2 nights at the end of May, and found this hotel to be a good choice in terms of quality and price.

I didnt find the location as central as other reviews have stated. Shinjuku station is a HUGE station and it can take 15 minutes from one end to the other. Once you have found your exit you then have to walk for another 10 minutes to get to the hotel.

The hotel offer a shuttle bus to the station every 15 minutes, but there were always queues. The walk isn't too bad so we just opted to walk.

The hotel is clean but slightly dated. The staff were pleasant enough but they weren't very helpful when it came to offering tourist advice.

The room was big, the beds comfortable, and the bathrooms have body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and all other toiletries you'd expect. There is a fridge but no mini bar. Television only had Japanese channels, radio was broken, and the view was in to the block of offices next door.

Their is no internet in the rooms, only wifi in the lobby which was really slow.

Overall the hotel was good considering it is in Tokyo. If you want a place to store your bags and sleep then its a good choice.

Take your own adapter as they charge over 1000Yen for one. Also, dont eat in the restaurant. Go somewhere local for half the price!

“Small but cozy rooms in the heart of the city.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 May 2012

Recently booked a semi double room and was pretty satisfied with my stay at the hotel. Rooms were very small but I found that to be typical of Japanese hotels. For the price I paid, I was impressed with the overall luxury and comfort provided. Rooms and showers were well maintained and clean. Very little to complain about.

Location wise, there is little in the direct vicinity of the hotel except for a small park. However a short 5 minutes shuttle service takes you into the heart of the Shinjuku shopping belt. That said, it's a pity that shuttle services only run for a few hours in the morning and the evening.

All in all, this hotel is very good value for money and perfect for those who want a wee bit of luxury without having to shell out a fortune for it.

“The best compromise between quality and price in Shinjuku”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 May 2012

Most people staying in Tokyo choose Shinjuku because it's a real strategic base from which easily leave and see the rest of the city or staying and find everything to do in the surroundings.
At New City Hotel we have found a great accomodation for an ultra reasonable price. We arrived very early in the morning, because our flight landed in Tokyo before 7 AM and people at the reception were very kind: they kept our luggages and arranged for a check in at 13, 2 hours before the usual 15 check-in, so that we could have our rooms and rest after the trip. The hotel is situated in the west Shinjuku area from the JR station, which is more peaceful and less trafficated, just in front of Shinjuku Central Park. There is a very useful hotel bus service from/to station and hotel, active all day except from about 10 in the morning to 16 in the afternoon. The service il free and very helpful, because once at Shinjuku Station you can reach easily every destination in Tokyo through metro or JR trains or you can walk in the Shinjuku east and south area and find everything you need. The room was very clean and confortable, considering the very tiny japanese standard. We can find everything we need, from tea set to teethbrushes, shampoo, bath foam, conditioner, all great quality. The room itself was not really modern-looking but it was not a real problem because it lacks nothing. Internet connection is available, wifi in the hotel hall and cable in the room, using the modem the reception gave us with our laptop. In the hall, in a separate room, there are coin operated washing machines and drinks automatic distributors (they are everywhere in Japan!). Not far from the hotel, about 100 meters on the main street, there is a Family Mart, open 24h a day, where you can buy everything you need always, night and day. If one day i'll go back in Shinjuku i will definitely stay at this hotel.

“good option in Japan”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 May 2012

As everything is very expensive in Japan, this hotel can be considered reasonable. it is not really that you get what you paid for, but at least it is affordable and in good location - not far from subway station and therefore easy accessible to most of touristic places. there is small bus which takes you from hotel to station and back which is really good idea.
rooms are clean although a bit old and cold (we've been there in Feb). this hotel is not to relax, but simply to stay over night.
in the shopping mall by the subway station you can find plenty of places to eat, supermarket and bakeries. In the evening, on the way back to hotel, you can get really good deals for Japanies food to have for dinner.

“A comfortable stay in Tokyo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 April 2012

I stayed at the Shinjuku New City Hotel with some friends of mine for about a week and I recommend this Hotel to anyone who wants to enjoy Japan and needs a bed for the night. The rooms are small but clean and excellent value for money. The stuff is really helpful and communicating in English works perfectly. There's a little distance to the station, but the hotel offers a shuttlebus in the morning and evening for free.
I would definitely stay there some other time.
