“Once is enough.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

I stayed at at room 0721 of the main building from 26 Dec 2011 - 4 Jan 2012. I only came to know about the stuffy, hot and tiny window in the room after I paid in full. Indeed, the room was so stuffy when I arrived. The air-con controller does not work too! I immediately requested the staff to open the window and he did within 5mins of my request. I left the window opened thru-out the whole 10 days. I let my curtain down the whole time too because right opposite my room is an office building. I can literally look at them working right from my room. This is not the worst! just few metres right infront of my room, is a boiler/heater of a lower building. Somehow water is trapped inside the fan and generate alot of hot steam which added on more heat to my room. I couldnt change room since they are fully booked. Since i am out during daytime and the room gets chilly during night time, I didnt mind that much too.

I booked the room with no breakfast.
Long wait for the lift. Many school kids stayed at this hotel too which added much noises.

There isnt much space for your luggage as well. Basically I left the luagge on the space beside the bed which left no space for walking. The pillow felt werid too, I can feel round bean-alike objects inside the pillow. I slept on the bed with the cover on and used my own towel as blanket thru-out the 10 days.

The long underground passage way is another turn-off. It took me 20mins to get to the JR Shinjuku Station and another 20mins back to the hotel. Basically I dragged myself back to the hotel everyday after a long day out.

During my stay, I received a phone message that I have a parcel for me and when I tried to enquire about it with the english-speaking staff at the foreigner counter, the lady flatly said NO PARCEL without even checking. I had to explain for a goddamn 10mins before she reluctantly check their system and other colleagues. Finally a male staff ran over and handed me the parcel and apologised for keeping me waiting. No apologises was given by the female staff.

I wouldnt stay in this hotel during my next visit. Once is enough.

“a good hotel if you know what you're getting into”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

This is really not an awful hotel. It is a good, fairly cheap option for someone looking for a hotel close to everything and can live with a few inconveniences. We stayed in a twin room for four nights.

- Yes, it smells like smoke everywhere. We chose a smoking room because the entire hotel smells like smoke and we didn't feel like it was worth the premium to get a non-smoking room that was going to smell like smoke anyway. That said, while the interior of the hotel smells very strongly of smoke, our room only had a faint smell of smoke. Not at all unbearable and after awhile in Japan, you get used to it.

- The rooms tend to be warm. I didn't find them unbearably hot, but if you have a lot of bodies moving around, just took a warm shower, are running the hair dryer, etc. the room will heat up. You can ask the front desk to open the window and they will.

- The rooms are small. Really small. If you have large luggage you are going to have issues because there will be no place to put them. Our two ~22" sized suticases fit, but just barely. Amenities included ethernet, a tiny TV with Japanese channels, toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, coffee/tea, mini-fridge, hair dryer, etc.

- Both the room and bathroom were clean, but the bathroom grossed me out a bit. It had a musty, moldy smell and was definitely not well ventilated. If you are tall, you will not fit! I am 5'5 and my head was maybe less than 7" inches from the ceiling when I stood in the shower.

- There are a lot of restaurant options within the hotel. The Manhattan Bar and Fujita restaurant have good food and special deals for guests at the hotel.

- The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from Shinjuku station. It's a nice walk and there are a lot of shops around the area. The airport limousine bus stops at the hotel for those going to/coming from the airport. The staff here speak English and the check in/check out process is easy and quick. During peak times the elevators can be slow even though there are 6 of them.

I recommend this hotel for those more concerned about location and price. This hotel is not perfect, but I can live with the inconveniences.

“To hot and smelly”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

We just spent 5 nights over Christmas in this hotel and didn't like it at all. I don't mind the small room because after all....it's Japan. The problem was that although you could turn the heating off the room would not cool down. It was like a sauna in there. Truly unbearable. No windows to open. Can you imagine trying to sleep in that?
The other problem was the bathroom. There was no fan in there. You could not go to the toilet without stinking the room out. Disgusting. We used the public toilets on the lower floors.
We couldn't wait to get out of the place.
The rest of our 3 week holiday in Japan was brilliant and all the other hotels were great. This hotel is tired and grubby. We are not prissy travelers, we are well seasoned. Avoid this Hotel.

Room Tip: If you travel in winter then be ready for a sweat box and if you like the smell of your own crap the...

“washington hotel shinjuku tokyo”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

The hotel is in a great location, about ten minutes walk from shinjuku station and is very reasonably priced.
The buildings public areas are very smart and clean. Staff were very efficient and cater for english speakers. Check in was pretty quick . The wait for the elavators was often long.
The hotel has a lot of restaurants . The two that i tried were mixed. The indian restaurant wasn't brilliant and had no other customers. The japanese restaurant where you order at the vending machine outside was better and i thought pretty good value. If you want to use the Manhatten Table restaurant on the top floor i suggest you make a reservation, the twice i just turned up , they were full. The hotel has a lot of rooms so this is not surprising.
Away from the public areas things aren't so good. The corridors are quite grim and as smoking is permitted , smell very strongly of cigarette smoke. The rooms are tiny and showing signs of wear and again smell very strongly of smoke. Shower gell , soap, shampoo were provided as well as a toothbrush . Internet access was via free ethernet connection for your own lap tops and also via the pc provided in the room, but no wifi. The supplied computer was using a very old browser and was a little slow and occasionly crashed. a kettle was provided along with coffee and tea. The coffee was not always refilled everyday by the room staff. the tv didn't have any english language channels although movies were available via pay per view. no ironing board or iron was provided.
the hotel had a laundry room with coin operated washers/ dryers but again no ironing board or iron.
All in all , not the greatest hotel i've ever stayed in but the location and price made it ok.

“Stay for the "location"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

Hotel was in a good location as it is a short walk from Shinjuku main railway (and metro) station. Shinjuku itself is a large area with lots of shops and many restaurants/cafes.

The negative: rooms are way too small for two people, but it's manageable if you're not in the rooms too much. I wouldn't swing my cat in there, if I had one...

'Family Mart' in hotel lobby is very handy!
