GORGEOUS and airy lobby with huge, sparkling chandeliers -- exactly as the pictures show. I loved taking the glass elevators every time! You can look out onto the city, or admire the lovely chandeliers as you ride them.
Check-in and check-out were both quick, and room service was great. Hotel staff is extremely polite and respects your privacy when you don't want to be disturbed. In fact you don't see too many staff unless you actually need them -- I greatly appreciated how unobtrusive they were. I felt very welcome -- welcome letter upon arrival, complimentary bottle of wine to celebrate a special occasion, and a helpful smile from the staff whenever I needed something -- but they kept a very respectful distance and I loved that.
It's about a ten minute walk from the JR Shinjuku station, but the hotel has a shuttle and if it's not too hot it's a rather nice walk. I especially don't mind the location because, unlike the Park Hyatt which is also far from the JR station but not near anything too interesting, the hotel is just across the street from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building which has a FREE observation deck at the top that's open early and closes late -- very convenient when you'd like to spend some time admiring the city from up high.
I also ate at the restaurant and the food was delicious, if a little expensive. Service was fantastic however!
