“Decent and spacious hotel”

This hotel is located quite near to the JR Line and the Odedo line is just besides it. So it is easy to move around in Shinjuku area and to other parts of Tokyo. The hotel room is spacious by Tokyo standard and is really true value for money.

“A large hotel, but a nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

We stayed at the Keio Plaza for five nights in October. It's about a 10 minute walk from Shinjuku station, and opposite the Tokyo Metropolitan building (which, incidentally, you should pop up if you get a chance – it’s free, and has amazing panoramic views over the city). Leaving the hotel, one direction takes you to and through the Shinjuku shops, whilst the other takes you... nowhere in particular. This means you’ll get to know the route from the hotel to the station very well, as you have to take it to get anywhere.

We didn’t have breakfast included in the rate, but – Tokyo being Tokyo – there are several (probably several dozen) coffee shops nearby. The hotel has a number of restaurants, all expensive, none hugely inspiring (although it does have a branch of the excellent Kyubey sushi restaurant – but we’d recommend going to the original in Ginza for the true experience).

As a hotel it was perfectly fine for our purposes, though it's absolutely huge and without much character. The main reception is rather grand, with glittering chandeliers and polished marble, if that’s your thing. While it was clear the room had fairly recently had an update (and was huge by Japanese standards, and included free wi-fi), this had not extended to the bathroom which felt a bit shabby.

Overall though, a good hotel for a good price.

Room Tip: Due to the building being 'long and thin', your room will *either* be at the back, and face...

“Location, luxury and service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

You walk right out of Shinjuku station`s western exit through the covered sidewalk and right there is the hotel. 47 floors worth of it. Find the hidden elevators on the lobby floor and get up to the 47th floor to see the skyline. Many restaurants available in the hotel, but we chose little restaurants outside. Also go to sizzler when you get tired of tempura. It is a nice change. This is the first hotel I've ever seen where the handicap room has a height adjustable bed. You can raise it, raise just the feet or just the head. Wonderful. Spacious room with two beds. VERY small bathroom with impossible to use sink. The whole time I was there I used the first floor HUGE accessible bathroom for everything except showers. Once again, no roll-in showers. I brought a portable bathtub lift.

“Huge but nice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

A landmark hotel in Shinjuku, huge with excellent service and nice large rooms. I live in Japan and London so I know Japan extremely well. Very helpful staff & excellent food. Lots of conventions meet here. Only 5 minutes' walk from the Keio Plaza, the Shinjuku station area has a huge range of department stores and restaurants. The biggest camera shop in Japan, Yodobashi Camera ヨドバシ カメラ has everything including hi-fi, computer and electronics etc. Several other camera shops here, too. Kinokuniya bookshop has Japanese books and a huge section of English language books about Japan. The Kabuki cho area is fun at night , full of clubs and bars. The strip-clubs are real fun and safe and OK for ladies, gentlemen and couples but make sure there is a fixed admission price before you go in. Unless you speak Japanese and know the culture be careful of other bars which may be extremely expensive. Also, some bars may not be keen to let in non-Japanese because they don't speak English and you might not speak Japanese. It looks slightly racy but is safe to walk around if you are as careful as you would be anywhere. Shinjuku station has its own department store with an underground shopping area and lots of street music every night. Tokyu Hands department store is at the east end of the station and great for handicrafts of all types. Shinjuku is a lively area so ask the hotel staff for directions for whatever you want. Walk around the side streets, too. There is a bus station here to go out of town and you can get to the airports from the station, too. Great hotel, if rather cavernous, and a great location.

Room Tip: Any room is nice.
