“A cosy little surprise!!!”

Okay - there's no getting away from the fact that the rooms in this hotel are smallish, but it IS Tokyo and let's face it - you're going to sleeping in it - not throwing dinner parties!
The house-keeping was excellent - room was always cleaned to a high standard. And none of that "Oh - you were still in your room when we came so you'll have to wait until tomorrow" nonsense.
Nice little continental breakfast in lobby area if you want a little something in your belly before venturing out in the awesomeness that is Tokyo!
The staff at Lonestar are wonderful. They speak enough English so that you don't feel a Wally playing charades and their standard of service was great. One afternoon we got caught in a rainstorm on our return to the hotel and a membernof reception staff immediately rushed out with towels when we got into reception - a really thoughtful gesture.
It helps that Lonestar is really close to the underground station - just remember to head for exit C8!!
It REALLY helps that the Lonestar is SECONDS from a mad selection of bars - many of them gay orientated, but not exclusively so. So very little in the way of staggering back after top nights out.
This was our first time in Tokyo but we will most definitely be back and the Lonestar is most definitely a huge deciding factor in this!!
Don't forget the free drinks and ice on the 4th floor!

“Good location, decent price for Tokyo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

This was our first trip to Tokyo, so it's hard to compare this place against any other in Tokyo. YES the rooms are small, and the definitely of 'double' bed is not the same as it is in Europe. It doesn't help that the photos on their website seem to make this look much more sophisticated than the reality.

But if you can get over the size (which I'm assuming is the same for the rest of the city) then it's not bad a hotel. And if you factor in the location in the gay area of Shinjuku and the price, then you're on to a winner.

We stayed in Tokyo 4 nights, and I feel like we should have stayed another 3. There's just so much to see and do in the city. But from the little I saw, I feel like Shinjuku was the right choice of neighbourhoods to stay in to get that authentic Tokyo experience. It's also good to see the Tokyo gay scene, and also be close by some great restaurants and bars.

The room's small, the bathroom's small, but you'll be amazed what they can fit into the space. The breakfast replicated the 'mini' theme with mini croissants in a toaster oven (we accidentally set fire to).

And don't forget to visit the floor with vending machine serving complimentary iced green tea.

“Great comfy tiny rooms, perfect location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2011

The hotel offers small but tidy and really comfortable rooms. The beds are soft and the sheets are of great quality. The WC are super small, but functional and clean. The location is just perfect, really close to everything you want to see (the subway is so convenient, when you've figured out how it works...), but still in a calm and quiet part of Shinjuku. The prices are reasonnable (and you can get discounts online) and the breakfast (included) is fair (bread, tea, jam). I would go back there if I went back to Tokyo.

Room Tip: Non-smoking floor, seriously!

“Great location, clean hotel”

Stayed here two nights while in Tokyo. Staff was very helpful and spoke pretty good English. Adjacent restaurant, but plenty more in the area. Only a few blocks from Shinjuku station made this place a great location, but without the price of downtown. Free computer to use in the lobby and breakfast (breads, juice, and coffee) served every morning. Rooms are tiny, but very comfortable and clean. Absolutely no complaints and would stay here again if I am in Tokyo!

“Cosy with a great vibe - loved it”

We stayed here the DAY after the 9.0 earthquake. We arrived in Shinjuku after an epicly long commute from Auckland, with a delayed 9 hour stopover in KL, and catching a myriad of trains to get there due to the partial JR closure.

Anyway, we heeded advice of this site in that its not THAT easy to find, but if you print/save a copy of Google Maps screenshot on your phone you will be fine. About 10 mins walk from main Shinjuku station or you can get the subway to Sanchome #3 which will drop you right outside but thats a bit trickier unless you are familiar with Tokyo public transit.

We stayed on the top floor level 7, and our room was compact. The bed was wide enough however for the two of us, although floor space was sparse and the bathroom was very small - like a closet.

However, everything was very clean and well maintained - the staff had good English skills, the lobby has free internet wifi and provided laptops, and the free everyday breakfast was great for the level of hotel.

Just walk East towards Shinjuku station at night or day and you will find heaps of cool local food places, Pachinko, shops, vending machines etc.

In Summary: A cosy hotel, in a good location, good value, great staff, very clean, but with compact rooms. Suitable for a single or couple who doesn't want to rough it but doesn't mind not having all the comforts of a larger hotel.
