“Great hotel, excellent location”

We live on Okinawa and visited Tokyo for some sightseeing and shopping. We spent 5 days at the New Sanno and had a great experience. The room was spotless and very large! Housekeeping staff was very friendly and the front desk staff was very helpful and accomodating. Restaurants were delicious! The only negative comment I have is that many of the "King Suites" face directly into an older building across the street, so if you're on a lower floor, you'll stare into someones window. We stayed in the "Pennsylvania" suite and the room was very comfortable. If we had been a few floors higher, I think the view would be good. There's NO chance of changing your room once you're there because this hotel is always booked months in advance and is full. It takes about 15-20 minutes to walk from the subway station to the New Sanno. We used the subway station everyday and it's very cheap and convenient.

Room Tip: Request a King suite or a family suite on a HIGH FLOOR! The view will be better.

“Doesn't get Better than this in Tokyo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

Amazing hotel in the heart of Tokyo, exclusively serving military and government ID card holders. It's about time to redecorate though.

“Best Deal (although restricted) in Tokyo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2011

As much as I loved Japan and its people, after two weeks in country we needed a little reprieve from the prices and want for western style ammenities so we headed to the New Sanno for the downtown Tokyo part of our exploration of Japan. As a military retiree, there was really no other choice since the price can't be beat. We scored a hard to get room by buying into an entertainment package (Oktoberfest dinner and show) for an extra $45.00 per person and well worth it.

More than a hotel, the New Sanno is a mini-resort. The facilities are excellent. For a government-owned hotel you'd think you'd get government quality services but that does not apply here. The staff at the New Sanno is excellent. At par with or better than luxury hotels I've stayed at. I was particularly blown away by Mitsu at the breakfast buffet for her hospitality, professionalism, dedication to the client and her beauty too. Made us feel very comfortable without being obstructive.

The rooms are very comfortable and chamber service is excellent also. We had a great view of Tokyo Tower out of our room.

An easy ten minute walk from the Hiro-o station, the New Sanno was an excellent base from which to explre downtown Tokyo.

Highly recommended if you have a military ID card or can find someone who has one to sponsor you.

“If you've earned the right to stay here, then this is THE place to stay”

Eligible as a military retiree, stayed here and also enjoyed a couple of their fine restaurants and the level of service. Stayed once in one of the more conventional western, then in the Japanese suite. Free Wi-Fi. About ten minutes walk to Hiroo subway station, and thus ready access to Hibiya and Shinagawa JNR (Train) stations. Laundry service at the hotel is most reasonable, and there is self-service laundry as well in the basement, though not enough machines to meet demand at times. The front desk staff, travel assistance and bell-staff, wait staff are all top-notch. You'll wish you could have the same level of service in the US. An added advantage is that they take credit cards in the restaurants, and that is not true in many of the restaurants in Japan.
I stay here when I am in Tokyo, if rooms are available (had to make reservations about eight months out, and still unable to get rooms for every night).

Room Tip: Start your quest for reservations a year out if you can.
