“Great Location”

Our family of four recently stayed at the Prince Sakura Hotel for four nights on our first trip to Japan. After a ten hour flight we caught the Airport Limousine bus service which delivered us to the front door. We were very impressed with the size of our room, particularly the bathroom which had a separate shower and spa bath, much to the kids delight. The room's facilities were spotless, huge beds, very quiet location and great view.
Overall, the hotel service was excellent, most staff spoke excellent English and were very helpful. The gardens surrounding and connecting with other hotels were magnificent and lovely to wander. We did not use any hotel facilities, eg spa, gym, swimming pool etc, but did find these were an extra cost if you wanted to use them.
The hotel is well located with a short walk to the Shinagawa Station (approx 200m). We did become quite familiar with the station as we frequently travelled to Toyko for sightseeing (approx 10 min train trip) and also did a day trip to Disneyland using the train system.
As we were also travelling to the snow fields, each family member, including our children, managed to tow one piece of luggage to the station to catch the Shinkansen no problems at all. It is not difficult!
We did not have any meals at the hotel, preferring to explore the local area which is very safe and clean. We found some fantastic local fare and restaurants after walking through the train station into the streets, having a full meal and drinks for the four of us costing about 1500 yen, breakfasts were around the same price.
My husband and I do enjoy having a beer and wine on holidays, we chose to purchase this at the 7-Eleven near the train station where it is much cheaper than the hotel price and we consumed this in our room.
I would highly recommend this hotel for its location and facilities, I cannot comment on the hotel's cost as it was included in my holiday package.

“Silent spot in central Tokyo”

We stayed overnight in October, 2011 with my mother. Luxury room is clean, silent and wide, Bath with shower booth is comfortable. We enjoyed walking in the hotel's japanese garden. We recommend breakfast in japanese style rather than in buffet style.

“Large room, dated decor”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2011

The reception & lobby area is not impressive at all and the corridor to the room was dark and smelt of old smoke. The room was massive though, but rather old and dated - we felt like we stepped back in time. The bed was also the largest we have seen (larger than a king size).

For daily trips around Tokyo, the location is good as Shinagawa station is a major station and has all the train lines going through it.

However, we chose this hotel because we wanted good access from Kyoto and then to Haneda airport. The hotel turned out to be further from the station than anticipated and we certainly would not have been able to get all our luggage that distance to take the train to Haneda airport anyway.

We had our luggage transferred from Kyoto to the hotel initially by the takkyubin service so we did not have to get it all there ourselves. When we asked about booking the service to get our luggage transferred to the airport, we were told that they only provide that service for domestic travellers. I am not sure why that would be the case since Haneda is now both a domestic and international airport.

Luckily it turned out the hotel is serviced by the airport limousine service (700 yen per person) and that actually saved us money because it would have cost more to transfer the luggage to the airport anyway. But still, we felt that service was a bit of a letdown.

In short, the hotel is good if you are looking for a large room with access to the Shinkansen and other trains with not a lot of luggage, but it didn't work for us after coming from 2 other really good hotels on our trip.

“Good choice if you don't mind paying for it.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2011

I stayed at this hotel for a business trip. First impression was that it definitely took more than the 3 mins to get to the hotel, contrary to what was published on the site. Location is great as it is accessible to the busy Shinagawa Station and many amenities. The slope leading to the hotel was no joke if your feet is all sore and can't wait to step into your room. The lobby is more like one which you expect from a 3-star hotel. It looks old and not a lot of activities going on. The lift is far away from the main lobby and you can't help notice the yellowish marble floor and the pathetic empty lounge along the way.

Thankfully, and more importantly, the room looks and feel much better. Definitely a 5-star (or close to it). Space in the room is generous. i like the shower as the water spray was powerful and it has a little drain that ensure the shower stall doesn't get flooded. The HD TV is also a plus though it could do with more international channels and a few movie channels (only 3 international channels: CNN, BBC, CCTV). What i also like is the prompt housekeeping service. i asked for the ironing board and ice on separate nights. They were knocking on my door with what i asked for in 5 mins. And those multi-function and temperature-controlled toilet bowl, what a great invention!

As I downgraded my room upon my request (JPY2,000 savings a night), I discovered a few inconsistencies. Mineral water was now chargeable (JPY540 for 2 small bottles) versus free of charge in the other room. I would have thought such basic necessities should be complimentary for corporate customers.

Overall, not a bad place if you don't mind paying for it.

“The Sakura Prince - spacious comfortable rooms and a nice hotel garden”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2011

Our family of four including my 82 year-old mum were absolutely delighted with this hotel. The absolutely large room was totally unexpected besides the fact is was very well furnished with just the right amount of furniture. I was able to move the furniture around to provide adequate support for mum to move around without making the room unsightly simply because there was adequate space to do so. Very, very good value indeed considering we got a hot breakfast - choice of American or Japanese plus complimentary drinks included in the hotel tariff. We were also happy with the hotel grounds since it provided a pleasant and safe environment for mum to have walks after her meals. Of course, the proximity to the Shinagawa Station was a consideration as we took the Narita Express from and back to the airport. I was also glad to get the help of a meeting assistant at both Narita and Shinagawa stations as I was able to get the JR folks to provide a wheelchair for mum to get around efficiently. Really kudos to the Japanese consideration for people with limited mobility. Via the hotel garden, we were able to get to the 2 other Prince Hotels to enjoy the F&B outlets. Simply delighted with the fare at the Takanawa Prince Hotel's cafe. We would highly recommend this hotel to family groups especially in view of the extremely large rooms which makes triple sharing very comfortable although we did not try it ourselves this time.
