When I book a hotel I do a lot of research and always read pages of trip advisor reviews so when I checked in at this hotel I was horrified! Checking in was ok, staff didnt speak much English but were helpful, the lobby area looked clean and tidy but quite average. The shock came when we stepped out of the lifts to a hotel corridor that was dull, dreary and the carpet was badly stained (it looked as if they had had a flood as the stains were consistent throughout the whole floor). The room was quite small (but this is to be expected in Japan) but we booked a non-smoking room and our room stunk of cigarettes. I asked to be moved to a non-smoking room but the hotel staff said even though we had booked a non-smoking room they were fully booked and they couldn't do anything, this annoyed me as we had booked months in advance and there is nothing worse than being in a room that stinks of cigarettes if you are a non-smoker. The window in our room wouldn't stay open either so we were choking on the disgusting smell, they offered to move us to another smoking room next door where the smell wasn't as bad and the window stayed open, they also gave us a spray can of room deodorant to lessen the smell. Once settling down in the room you start to notice how old the furnishings are and how dirty the room is (stains on the bed cover, residue from shampoo & conditioner still in the bath etc). I was quite shocked as I had stayed in two hotels before this that were similar in star rating and cheaper and they were modern, more staff spoke english and were very clean. It felt like our holiday had been ruined having to stay here so I complained through the website I had booked the hotel through and suddenly we were offered a non-smoking room for the next three nights (which weren't offered to me the first time I asked), I still wasn't happy though as the hotel was disgusting even if we weren't in a smoking room. The hotel offered to refund me 3 nights accommodation which I was very grateful for, I found a hotel around the corner for only $30 extra per night and it was well worth spending a bit more, we enjoyed the rest of our holiday thanks to moving hotels but I will never forget how gross this place was!
