Tokyo is expensive and I was able to get into The Granbell for under $200 a night over a holiday weekend in a premier room, and now having been there, I would consider that a great value. The hotel itself is on a small street in a neighborhood packed with restaurants, bakeries, and convenience stores, so if you need a late night snack or an ATM, you are in luck, but because it's a business area, it still quiets down after 11 pm so that you can get a good nights sleep. The hotel itself is a true boutique hotel, it's half the size of most of the giant corporate hotels that make up Tokyo, and it allows you to come and go without a lot of the pomp and circumstance of the bigger hotels, and yet the staff is still very accomodating and pleasant - they spoke perfect English. We booked a "premier" room (one step up from the standard room) and it was more than comfortable for two people with an extra large bathroom including tiled walk-in shower and giant deep soaking tub. It also had a lounge chair, desk and chair, and a king size bed, which seemed hard to find in Tokyo. The rooms and hallways are very sleek and designy even though the lobby was small and basic, with a free breakfast of several cereals, breads, coffee, and tea (no meat, but the breads were yummy). The best part of the hotel is the central location - it's two block from a subway stop that connects about 6 different routes. I'm from LA which isn't very subway friendly, and I was nervous about figuring this out and being able to get around but it couldn't have been easier. It truly was central to everywhere you want to go, from Asakusa to Shibuya to Roppongi, etc.
