“Tiny rooms, even smaller baths, westerns will not be pleased”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

We did not choose this hotel. It was provided as part of the tour we booked with WalkJapan. Two people with luggage cannot actually walk around the room at the same time. The bathroom is equally tiny. Our 10th story room had windows which opened with no bars - not a good idea if a child happened to be staying in the room. I believe the room is very inexpensive. It embodies all the stereotypes of the typical Japanese business hotel - claustrophobically small; hard, uncomfortable beds; tiny pillows; tiny bath with no storage for toiletries; no place for luggage; unpleasant, utilitarian decor; and of course no view. We moved to the Hotel Ryumeikan for the remainder of our stay where we paid a modestly higher room rate to be sure but had four times the value in comfort and convenience and floor space.

“Great location, Great clean rooms, Excellent Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

Nice western beds (doubles), extremely friendly staff, and half a block from the Tokyo main terminal.

The Restaurant is great, they have an out-of-date menu, but there was a waitperson there who painstakingly translated the menu to us.

Bathroom is a typical Japanese Bathroom, so you really only have enough room to turn around, but half the fun of travelling in Japan.

Very reasonable rates.

Well worth the stay.

“Tiny room but fantastic location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

OK, so the bedroom is minute and you wouldn't want to do more than sleep and shower there but you are right on the doorstep of Tokyo station, Ginza and Nihonbashi. It's a buzzy spot in central Tokyo and for the price it's great. I only appreciated what this little hotel has going for it when I stayed atbtwo other hotels in Tokyo. Honestly, I I'd gone back to the Yaesu.

“good quality modern Japanese "business hotel"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

If you need to be as close to Tokyo station as possible, but are on a normal (=not Shangri La or Four Seasons) budget, and you don't have huge luggage or expectations, this is for you. You'll get a clean, smart, very small, basic room for a reasonable price in probably the most accessible location in Tokyo.

Taxis may not find this immediately (it is indeed spitting distance from Tokyo station but you have to know which direction to spit...) so have the address/phone number with you to help the driver if he needs it. The entrance at street level is tiny - you take a lift to the second floor where the reception area is. Check in was efficient tho' might be a little clunkier if you don't speak Japanese. You prepay so check out was almost instantaneous.

The room was a standard size for a business hotel in Japan, i.e. tiny. But the bed was large enough, and comfortable, there's a work desk with a LAN cable (no wifi - but free and it worked well), a kettle (with a green tea sachet - if you want black tea or coffee, bring your own), and a "unit bath" with good quality fittings including a deep Japanese soaking bath, a great shower, and of course your prostate's best friend, an active toilet seat. The bathroom is slightly trendified with a window into the bedroom. Lighting is good, and adjustable from bright enough to get stuff done, to relaxing, to reading-only. A really well-designed use of space!

It's absolutely typical of a modern business hotel: a clean, efficient, machine for staying overnight.

I literally checked in, slept, and checked out, so didn't try the cafe, which looked quite nice. But there's no shortage of food and drink options nearby anyway. As usual with a business hotel, your minibar needs are catered for by vending machines, and you can borrow a trouser press (and of course there's a toothbrush and razor set in the room as standard).

I paid a little over JPY12,000 for the night, which is upper-middle pricing for a good basic business hotel these days. A similar hotel in a lesser location might be JPY9,000, and the Metropolitan Marunouchi (close by and one notch up) would be around JPY20,000 at the moment. So you're getting appropriate value for money here.

If you need a simple place to catch some ZZZZs before or after travel - you're in luck!

Room Tip: if you think you're going to be in the room long enough for the floor, view, etc, to make a diff...

“A Big Plus for Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2011

We were not expecting much with regard to size although we booked the bigger room after reading the reviews here. and having just left a business-class hotel. No complaints since I pre-empt it. However the room is clean and overall, we had a nice experience. Beds were comfortable. They even gave me a ladies' toiletries bag with clip and hairband which I thought was rather nice. The big plus is the location. For those coming from Tokyo station, just exit at Yaesu North Exit. You should find yourself out where Daimaru is. Walk through at ground level, the Daimaru wonderful sweets department is on your left. Cross the road and you will see Honma Golf shop. Walk down that path and you will see the hotel. To those arriving by the airport bus, you alight at Tokyo stop, you will see a Hokkaido Foodist shop, walk away from it (the shop is on your right), and you will see the Honma Golft shop. and turn right downwards. (Upon arrival, you might wish to take note of the departure times back to the airport.) There is a 7-11 round one corner, and a Family Mart nearby. Many eateries are around. The Doutour shop serves nice American breakfast. If you walk past the hotel, you will reach Maruzen and Takashimaya. It's very convenient for me as my hb was away for business and it's no problem for me to return to the hotel late. Staff is helpful too. (Btw, if you go to 7-11, do try this thing called Morinaga Ice Block - it's super yummy!)
