The location of the Hotel Metropolitan Marunouch was excellent. [Take the Narita Express to JR Tokyo Station, get off at the JR Tokyo Station and go up to the first floor [the train comes in on B5F] and go out from Yaesu North ticket gate and exit from the Nihonbashi exit. The hotel [Sapia Tower] was right across the walkway.] Check-in is on the 27th floor; so you are guaranteed a great view since the rooms are above the 27th floor. The rooms were small by western standards but not bad, very clean and excellent views of the city. We opted for the breakfast add-on; 95% japanese breakfast which I enjoyed. The concierge was very helpful, in getting us a 1/2 day tour on New Year's Eve with Hato buses. Thoroughly enjoyed the tour of the Tokyo Tower, Imperial Palace Plaza, Asakusa Kannon Temple and Ginza. Not many places were open during the New Years [we were there from December 30th - January 2nd] but was able to do some shopping. Had some wonderful meals at a very reasonable price at the train station. It is a city in iself. New Years Day the hotel had a rice making [mochi] demonstration that was very entertaining and on January 2nd, they took us over to the Imperial Palace to see the Emperor and Empress and family. The palace gates are open only twice a year; the Emperor's birthday and January 2nd. We also bought a one day pass for about $10 per person and rode the green loop, Yamanote line that took us to Harajuku, Meiji Shrine, Ryogoku where the Sumo stadium and stables were, Ginza where the designer shops are; the most expensive real estate in Tokyo and back to Tokyo Station. The hotel is walking distance to Ginza and the Imperial Palace. When we return to Tokyo to see the fish market and sumo we will definitely stay at this hotel again. It was perfect.
